WXHC Rebrands As X101

Posted: 01 Jun 2016 12:19 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...rands-as-x101/

Eves Broadcasting rebranded Classic Hits Oldies 101.5 WXHC Homer/Cortland
NY as X101 this morning.

The change comes as the station celebrates its 25th anniversary this month.
The station claims the rebranding comes to remove the stigma of being just
a 60s and 70s based station as it evolves with the format to add more 80s
and 90s tracks. No changes to the on-air lineup which includes Program
Director Joel Brown in mornings and OM Mike Eves in afternoons.

WXHC 101.5 Homer/Cortland celebrates its 25th year of broadcasting to the
CNY area this month. *It was June 1991 when John Eves and wife Patty along
with brother Bruce signed the FM Radio Station on the air. *A lot has
changed since then: From “Hometown Radio” to “Mix 101.5”, to “Oldies
101.5”, and NOW “X101 Always Classic.”

Yes today, June 1st, Oldies 101.5 became X101 Always Classic. *According to
Eves, the Oldies format has a stigma of playing only music from the 60’s
and 70’s. *We’ll still play the classic hits from the 60’s and 70’s, we’ve
just moved into the 80’s and 90’s Eves said. One thing that is not changing
is our same great music classic hits, from the Beatles to Billy Joel,
Elton John, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, The Allman Brothers,
and yes even a little Grateful Dead, X101 plays great music and
occasionally even those one hit wonders you remember.

?Program Director and morning man, Marathon NY’s own Joel Brown works
tirelessly to make sure X101 plays the classic music hits you want to hear
along with his “today in music”, “Hot Headlines”, and “Today I Learned”
features.

?Keeping X101 Always Classic moving through the afternoon is Mike Eves. *If
you want your station live and local X101 Always Classic is the place to
tune. *Mike has his “what were they thinking” feature and he is constantly
updating*the website, wxhc.com along with Facebook and Twitter.

?News Director and Cortland native, Brad Smith brings his 30 years of
broadcasting background and unique writing style and delivery to keep X101
listeners up to date and informed on local issues.

X101 still has a great lineup of specialty shows. On Friday night it’s
local favorite Johnny West, from 6 to Midnight, with “Friday Night Rock N
Roll.” On Sundays from 6 8am it’s “The Sounds of Sinatra with Sid Mark”,
then 8 -10am “Breakfast with the Beatles”, followed by “Into the 70’s” from
10 3pm, and Nina Blackwood “Absolutely 80’s” from 3-6pm.

Urban formatted stations. The first affiliate will be CBS CHR 99.7 Now KMVQ
San Francisco, who will air the program from 10pm-2am starting Monday, June
6. This marks a return to the market where she spent five years hosting
nights at iHeartMedias Rhythmic CHR Wild 94.9 KYLD prior to joining WQHT in
January 2015.

Cat Collins, former PD of KYLD and Hot AC Star 101.3 KIOI San Francisco is
serving as Executive Producer for Nessa On Air.

Benztown, an international radio imaging, production library, programming,

through Friday show produced for CHR, Rhythmic CHR and Urban stations and
designed to air in any day part.

The first affiliate to broadcast “Nessa On Air” is CBS Radio’s 99.7
Now/KMVQ-FM in San Francisco, which debuts the program on Monday, June 6,
2016. Nessa was previously on-air at KYLD in San Francisco before signing
on at Hot-97 in New York City, so this week’s debut marks a return to Bay
Area radio for Nessa.

Michael Martin, Senior Vice President, Programming, CBS Radio said: Nessa
is such a superstar! The Bay has missed her but now shes back and I couldnt
be happier to have her back on 99.7!”

Rick Cummings, President, Radio Division, Emmis Communications said: “From
her very first job in radio (Power 106 Los Angeles), we have been huge fans
of Nessa. She brings so much to the party on Hot 97, on Girl Code. Now, she
can do the same for your station. Dont miss the opportunity!”

Nessa said: “I’m so excited to take ‘Nessa On Air’ national. Cat and I have
always wanted to do syndication together and we’re doing it with the
family, Katrina B and Queen Kong! And going back to the Bay on our first
affiliate, 99.7 Now with Michael and Jazzy! This is so perfect. Big ups to
Chachi and Masa at Benztown for their belief, and thanks sooo much to my
Emmis family Rick, Charlie, Pio, and Jimmy for their support. Let’s get
this!”

Cat Collins, Executive Producer and co-founder of “Nessa On Air” said:
After working with Nessa for six years in San Francisco and seeing up close
her extraordinary talent and true gift for connecting to her listeners and
to the biggest artists in CHR and RCHR, I am thrilled to partner with her
and with the Benztown team for Nessa On Air”! Nessa has a proven track
record of ratings success in New York City and San Francisco and this new
show will take that success to markets of every size across the country.
Nessa On Air is designed to offer affiliates a true competitive advantage
through fun and memorable content that is seamlessly integrated into the
music log with local customization for any day part. A big thank you to
Michael Martin and Jazzy at KMVQ San Francisco for signing on as our first
affiliate! Lets go!
