There was a station that had the call WKRP and I worked for that station in
1981-1982.

It was WKRP in Dallas, GA. Mitch Lepord put the station on the air in 1979.
It was suspose to be WDLS, but WKLS in Atlanta (96 Rock), said those calls
were too close to the 96 Rock calls, and Mitch went after the WKRP ID.

And yes, it was a Crappy station to work for. 1500 KHZ, 1000 Watt daytimers,
500 Watts CH and no presunrise authroization. Mitch started it off with a
format of playing one country record, then one rock record. It sucked.
First record on WKRP Dallas was 'Lonsome looser'. It's now WDPC playing
gospel music.

I did mornings there for a while. Still have airchecks and press from those
days. Then walked out on them in October 1982, when the owner threatend to
fire me for low sales numbers (and I was a sales/jock and hated the sales
side of it). I went to WFOM in November, 1982 and played rock, until that
station got sold in 1983 and changed to christain music.

WKRP was crap, it sucked working there.

There was an urban-formatted WRAP in Virginia some years back. Makes me

Not currently on the FCC lists, but a sort of related call with a history

of
its own is. There's a WKRP-LP (TV) licensed to Washington DC. W-KRaP?
Wonder if the TV show producers saw it that way. Why anyone with a real
station would WANT those calls is also a different matter.
