Ireland gets a new Radio Station
7th October 2004
The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has signed a ten year sound broadcasting contract with North West Broadcasting Limited (trading as OCEAN FM) to provide a local sound broadcasting service for the franchise area of Donegal South, Sligo, and Leitrim North. OCEAN FM launched last Saturday (Oct 2nd) and aims to provide a locally focussed, nationally aware radio service for all age groups that will become an integral part of life in Counties Sligo, North Leitrim and South Donegal. The station will deliver a high quality, local radio service to the listeners of the franchise area, providing programming that will entertain, inform and engage the diverse audiences of these counties. Comprehensive local news, sports and current affairs programmes will provide for the interests, concerns and issues affecting the listeners of the area. The station has a dedicated broadcasting studios in each county within the franchise area. The station replaces North West Radio which did not have its licence renewed after 14 years of broadcasting to south Donegal / Sligo / North Leitrim. North West Radio had threatened legal action against the BCI but this was withdrawn and the station which had gained much support closed down on Friday last. NWR sister station Mid West Radio continues to broadcast from Mayo on 96.1 FM & 97.1 FM. THE RADIO NEWSLETTER |
