Default New SkyWave 2879ABTC almost ready to fire up...

On a sunny day (Sun, 10 Sep 2006 19:21:59 -0700) it happened Frank Gilliland

Is he doing that? You must be joking right? I do not believe he does that?

why not run a key line along side the coax?
After all, you gotta connect the two with coax anyway, right? Just use
the external speaker jack to route it out the radio. Or, if the extra
wire is too expensive, how about modifying the radio to superimpose a
DC keying signal onto the coax that can be detected by the amp? Even
better, and since most amps are mounted close to the radio, how about
including a couple mic jacks in the amp; one for the mic and the other
for a patch cable between the amp and the radio's mic jack?

Sure, use the mike connector, I have this interface anyways for packet radio
(digital), cost only 3 connectors and 1 meter wire.
But then he needs different connectors for different types of sets.
And it takes some soldering.
Could sell it as : Adapter, gold plated? adapters is big business.....

Well I think that anyways after I have seen a gold plated audio cable for 100$
in a shop here ;-)

Default New SkyWave 2879ABTC Prototype Working Well...

Well, finished the testing of the temperature compensated biasing on
the new amplifier. It works as well as the original "hay-wired"
prototype I first made. I think the cicuit is very repeatable. I was
able to hold a 500mA collector current bias to +/-50mA from -30 to
+85C. Without the compensation, the variance over that temperature
range is about 4 to 5 Amps. I'm now in the process of evaluating the RF
performance... and then some life testing. If anyone is curious... the
preliminary specs are available for viewing at

Yep, or he rips me for making an honest living with agriculture. He even
asks for me now if I don't post every two days or so. It's actually just
another excuse for him to post his CB linear spam everytime he hits send
through his free google account. I'll sell more insect control this $eason
than he'll ever sell in CB amplifiers in a lifetime. (or any year for that
matter)

I actually like your updates. While I don't need an amplifier like that,
I know the enjoyment of building and testing you get doing it.

The parts, the PC board, the schematic, planning parts placement and
layout, It's fun. :-)

I got an old piece of **** amp in the junk box, I should pull it out and
have a look at it. I think it was a two device texas star. Definately
crap construction as compared to yours.

Yes, it's fun and you always learn something doing it. These guys like
Frank and DrCoward are nothing but "spoilers"... and complain about
everyone and everything.
It's sad that they don't show us some of there superior designs... and
walk-the-walk so to speak. So far... they are definately back-seat
drivers when it comes to amplifier design... LOL
