Considering his retail outlet, Ebay, has blocked every attempt to sell the product, His sales has probably been rather low. Thus not profitable. Also the fact that the amp is rather low powered for most "competition" CBers and with the plethera of older 100+ plus ham rigs out on the market, there is not a large market for his amp. Who needs an five watt radio, and a 100 watt amp to drive a big competion amp when you can get a Kenwood TS440 or similar and use it. Always good to hear from James the student... Just looking at the evaluation schematic and his photos on Ebay it is not just a copy of the evaluation board. So he had to put some thought behind it. At least give him credit for that. He hacked the design from a page I cited several years ago while criticizing his earlier splatter-box. The only thought he had was how he could get away with the theft of someone else's intellectual property. His solution was to withhold the schematic. I guess he didn't realize that his amp could be reverse-engineered... duh!!! One thing is I am not going to pay that price to see a schematic or reverse engineer it to see how it works. Can do that from the specification. Not for that price, for sure. But his latest hack? Yep! I'm going to buy one and do a full -- and FAIR -- evaluation on my bench. I'm just waiting for him to go into "full production". The only thing that bothers me is this is based on an IC that has been in production for at least 9 yrs. This is not an indicator that the SO will also go that route. I checked with Analog Devices before starting this project and they said there are no plans to discontinue at this time. Now, that really doesn't mean anything... but if they discontinue... they discontinue. My opinion is that this will not happen for perhaps five years. By the way... the "check with ADI" on their site has to do with availability at this time. It seems that this chip is undergoing a fab location change... probably moving to China (where else) and the location is not ready. The lead time for this chip right now is 36-38 weeks. It's fortunate I have plenty to get started... since brokers are getting upwards of $10 a piece for these right now. www.telstar-electronics.com |

I'm finishing up my Master's this summer, and just a couple months ago I got back on the horse and found another job as a BE that pays 42K/yr, which is 13K more than I was making at the other station. Yet YOU chose to spend your time and money on a scheme that has netted you nothing but problems and failure. You still live in your mommy's house and depend on public tax dollars to feed your fat face. You have no significant assets, no job security, and no means to support yourself let alone a family. If there is a girl somewhere on the planet that would have you it is only because she has less confidence and self-worth than you. You are in no better position now than you were 10 years ago. Sure, but first I'll need one of your devices to run across the bench so I can determine your definition of "performance" (due to the very real possibility that you got the definition from the same dictionary as you got the definition of "linear"). Again you have not provided any information to back your claims... and are evasive. End of conversation. www.telstar-electronics.com |

And just in case you have been stoned for the past ten years, this conversation will continue with or without you. |

I have never seen anyone so anxious to get his hands on a device that he has proclaimed to be crap. Why would anyone (who is sane) have that on his agenda? Frank, you're starting to lose it again... As for carrying on the conversation without me... why should this be any different than any other post. You've been talking to yourself for years. www.telstar-electronics.com |

Congrats on the adult-ed!!! Freakin' tough as nails to do it later in life. And with the price of everything skyrocketing, the extra chunk'a change will come in handy. So what's the plan for play? Doing anything interesting this summer? |

Maybe I'll submit to my paranoia and begin stockpiling for 2012 :-0 Too funny. You been talking to Darren Dalton? I've never heard of any Darren Dalton. I'm just a firm believer of self-fulfilling prophecy. Dalton was a pro ball player for the Phillies (I think, I'm not much of a baseball fan). He lives around here and can often be found in a certain local bar talking about how the world is going to end in 2012 and how the aliens were in command of his body when he hit home runs. Hell of a nice guy, though. |
