Default how many cb channels are there?

hi, i'm new to CB radio... How many channels are there? It looks as if
there are 40 channels, but i see some cb radios advertised that can go to
ch.80... what gives? Any website i visit says the legal frequency range is
from 26.965 to 27.405 MHz, and ch 40 IS 27.405 so it doesn't make sense to
have another 40 channels present. Help meeee!

Do you have an example of such a cb and a specific website in mind? A cb
touted as having 80 channels? Highly doubtful, but since you have
specifically provided for the example, please now cite the webpage where
you saw this cb touted as 80 channel.

Any website i visit says the legal frequency

another 40 channels present.

Really? Again,, which websites have you visited?
Speed limits only go to 70 MPH in the US. According to your logic, it
makes no sense they go faster. Consider yourself helped, unless the
analogy is lost on you. No cb is manufactured for sale in the US with
more than 40 channels.

Ok, thank you. But my logic isn't flawed, i think you misinterpreted what
I said. If the forty channels consume every frequency in the legal range,
it _logically_ doesn't make sense to have more channels because they
would have to be on other frequencies outside the legal range... That's
all i meant and thought.

But now it's been cleared up... thanks.

p.s. i went to some websites that appeared to be written by well-informed
authors, i dunno, just ones i saw on google.

It was cleared up when you were asked to provide for your claim.

yeah, no ****, it was in my immediate followup to that message when i said
it was clear. Does everyone in here run around with their cb antennas
shoved up their asses or something? Everyone is a ******* to everyone
else, an assumption based on the topic of EVERY message in this rotten
newsgroup.

This is the result of rampant paranoia, fostered by the suspicion that
anyone asking a question such as yours, is automatically a troll and
just looking for trouble.

Sometimes this is the case, but if certain people appear abrasive, it's
because they are.

Legal class "D" CB radios manufactured for the U.S. market are limited
by law to 40 channels (Except older pre-1977 radios which were 23
channels).

There are radios made for the export market which have many more
channels modes and power. They are very real, and even manage to find
their way into the U.S. market (albeit illegally).

There is also questionable marketing literature which incorrectly refers
to AM/SSB radios as having "120 channels", when in fact it's only 40
channels with 3 modes available on each channel. It's not the same
thing.

Not quite everyone... some do not post often, because there is little worth
replying to. If you check back through the replies, you should see that
I tried to be helpful.

Some trolls are on this group. They will post messages just to anoy people
and start arguments. Sometimes they will post on both sides of the "fence",
just to get it started.
Some bait any CBers on here, while others bait the Trolls and "pro-legal"
people. If you don't like the game they are playing, filter them and the
naff messages out and just read the real CB posts - there are not many.

Due to all this baiting, some people see a post which refers to legal issues
and think that it is just the "antis" baiting CBers. Sometimes you just
have to take the risk, assume it is real, and give a real reply.
There are some Yahoo groups that deal with CB, and they are generally clear
of abuse as offenders will be booted off.

Regards,

Peter.
