Bet you mine is up higher g

Landshark

I'll keep my pennies in my pocket. Bet I've tried more angles
than you!

Maybe, but my antenna we just put up the tree,
118', now that's up there.

Landshark

Wrist rocket?

Nope, had a friend that trims tree's
for a living, put on the tree spikes, climb
the tree. Had an Army bigstick on a 10'
mast above the tree, works pretty good
barefoot, you should hear it with the
power on g

Landshark

118 feet is way up there. You better be careful to not
fry that tree-stick with power, it's a bitch to replace. ;)

I fried 2 of them, before I realized they're not built for that.

Lucky for me they weren't in a tree. g

Ever wrist rocket a long wire leader?

Nope there not, but if I do run any power it's not more
than a couple hundred. No need to run more than that
at home IMO, especially since the antenna so high up.

Ever wrist rocket a long wire leader?

LOL!! Nope, I've heard of that, but never seen it
done. I do know of someone that did a type of
mortar thing that shot some wire up once, that
was a long time ago though.

Hook Charlie Hugg's amp to it.

Any boost from the radio will only be noticed on YOUR meter.
The person on the other end will wonder why you sound like sh!t...

Hahahahaha!
Why is that funny?

I'm wondering why you figure it will sound like sh*t for one.

That's been answered already, you'll only increase your splatter
with those snip jobs. Leave it alone.

Hmm, I think we're not quite on the same trail. All I need is about 10 watts
to kick the amp properly. I don't like the idea of cutting the limiter
myself, however, I'm betting a small change to get 8 or 10 watts out of it
would not cause splatter. Maybe I'll just swap out the finals in the thing
and see if the rig can drive 'em.
I do understand what you were saying about splatter and I hate hearing that
on air too. Thanks, Steveo.

How directional is it? ;)

figures out to be about 80% forward lobe.
Make sure you aim it, then.

A 3 element vertical with a rotor would be more efficient. But
a y quad or pdl 2 style beam would be better for dx/ local. Inverted
V will handle a kw, if it's tuned...so many choices.

Don't want a beam for it. Going with an inverted V and NVIS. Only
reason for it is to communicate with the REACT folks who help out
with our ham emergency group and the EMC. And I might shoot some
skip now and then, LOL!

Rock on, you alligator station! ;)

Hahahahaha! Will do...

LMAO!!! You would have to have a
heck of a lot of wire for that set up.

if you hook up an oscilloscope and do a before and after test you will see
with your own eyes that clipping the limiter will cause splattery modulation

Removing the ALC limiter will cause distortion
There are other ways to increase output WITHOUT causing distortion
If you do not have or know how to use an oscilloscope then you need to have
a professional do the work

No, had no intention of clipping the limiter. There are other ways.
Thanks for the link. Got a homebrew amp but it takes 10 to 50 watts to kick
it. If I can't do it, thats fine, I'll just use the ol Cobra as is.

My buddy has one . He's gonna bring it over Fri. and I have some parts we're
gonna try in it. Got the antennas up and coverage is pretty darn good
already. But, boys must tinker with things. LOL!
