Apparently, there is a "repeater" for the chicken band on the air. The link at the very top has pictures, circuitry and everything! Is this not against the law? ![]() Jerry I've made 11 meter repeaters before. If you stay low keyed, you can get away with it for a very long time. Personally I think it's much better than running a bunch of heat to get out and you're not splattering the crap out of your neighbors if you're accessing it from your home. Worked great with a HH too but I had to make the encoder inside a large mobile mic since I couldn't fit it into the radio shack hh at the time. -Dr.X Do you also drive at 100 MPH because it's illegal to do so and you've done it before? People who always break the rules are partially responsible for yet more being imposed. Rules are made for a reason. And no, it isn't to be broken.... NS If you're going to use that analogy, then make it a little more realistic. Using a repeater on 11 meters is more like driving 5 MPH over the speed limit. I guess you would rather have folks driving near hospitals with 1200 watt splatter boxes stopping hart monitors just so they can be heard. -Dr.X |

Do you do it because it is ILLEGAL? Driving faster than the speed limit allows - regardless if 5 or 100, linear amps, etc... ALL are illegal, so is that why you do it? ANY analogy could be used in this case. IF it is illegal, it is illegal - regardless what the situation is which is against the laws of the land. As for comparing the damage done in going 100 mph as opposed to a CB repeater... Maybe there isn't any comparison in that regard, BUT again BOTH are illegal. No, I wouldn't want people driving past Hospitals with 1200W splatter boxes, silly statement - they're not legal anyhow. SO that analogy sucks as bad as you think mine did. Besides, they won't "stop" a heart monitor. Maybe interfere. A "heart monitor" won't "stop" the heart, it merely reads the heart rhythm and allows the staff to see how the patient is doing. RF in close proximity may interfere with a Pacer, but I'm not so sure a 1200 watt radio going down the road will do it. It is more like Microwave ovens up close, some other forms of RF at high density, like Radar System. Cell phones are even thought to do it - in some cases. I'm sure there are 1500 watt Ham stations within proximity to some hospitals with no mention of problems. But no matter, if you're into illegal operations, nothing anyone else says will sit well with you. All I can say is - do it long enough, your turn will come. NS |

Well then you made no point. I think everyone here is mature enough to
already know it's illegal. I don't recall reading anything in the thread that said/argued otherwise. Typically, things are illegal for a reason. I'm still listening to why a repeater should be illegal on a CB freq....and a car going 100 mph ain't gonna cut it :-) Don "NO SPAM" wrote in message rio.net... "Dr.X" wrote in message ... Do you do it because it is ILLEGAL? The whole point WAS.... Do you do it because it is ILLEGAL? Nope, and I doubt you exceed the speed limit just because it's illegal too. (and please don't say you've never exceeded the speed limit 'cuz I just won't believe you). Driving faster than the speed limit allows - regardless if 5 or 100, linear amps, etc... ALL are illegal, so is that why you do it? Nope. ANY analogy could be used in this case. You're right. I misread. My humble apologies on that. IF it is illegal, it is illegal - regardless what the situation is which is against the laws of the land. So I've heard... *yawn* As for comparing the damage done in going 100 mph as opposed to a CB repeater... Maybe there isn't any comparison in that regard, BUT again BOTH are illegal. No, I wouldn't want people driving past Hospitals with 1200W splatter boxes, Snip useless soapbox on your medical knowledge since you're not too stupid to understand what was meant in the first place Ok, to fix the 1200 watts into the hospital analogy, we'll forget that situation and I'll give you one that you and I can both relate to better. I live in an apartment complex. If you lived in the apartment next door to me, would you rather put up with me kicking on a 1200 watt box on an indoor dipole, or would it be better that I just use my 2 watt walkie talkie to connect to a repeater so I can talk with my friends? I don't think I need to explain what the hot box would do to your television reception (and possibly reception on lots of other consumer level entertainment equipment). And stop crying about "it's illegal!". If I want to get out, I'll get out weather you like it or not. Personally, I think to choose to use the repeater would be more responsible of me and respectful to you as my neighbor. But no matter, if you're into illegal operations, nothing anyone else says will sit well wit h you. All I can say is - do it long enough, your turn will come. I think I'll attract less of Uncle Charlie's attention if I use the repeater and more if I use the 1200w amp, don't you? -Dr.X |

This is the keyclown mentality. The self centeredness of keyclowns is well documented, and they try any verbal trickery they can think up in an effort to justify their keyclownism. |

The repeater was just for getting mobiles and hand healds on an equal playing field with base stations around town. For that, it works great. When the skip starts rolling, your freind across town isn't going to hear you while your on a trc-216 even if you have it's antena fully extended. (unless you connect it to an external antenna and maybe run up some heat). -Dr.X |

That's no repeater. Store and rebroadcast? I guess it still qualifies as a repeater since it literally repeats everything, but it sucks. Who would want that peace of junk? I thought you were talking about relaying in real time like a normal repeater. In this case, I wouldn't even bother with such a device. -Dr.X (hmph!) |
