Hello R.F. Burns:
Yeah "Black Cat" Amps. More memories of the old days. Back in the 60 to 70's, Ray (Buckshoot)one of the locals in the San Fernando Valley, bought a used Ford Bronco 4x4, jeep like truck. It came with a CB Radio and a old tube type VHF tunable receiver. It wasn't real pretty looking but was functional and ran good. Ray called me up and wanted help with the old Gonset Tunable VHF Receiver to tune in on the local Police and Fire frequencies. We did hear the fire department but not the LAPD,as I think they went to the UHF Band at that time. We also noticed that when the CB radio was keyed it took out the VHF Receiver, it de-sensed it so you couldn't hear the VHF signals when the radio was keyed. Looking all over to see what this was, we didn't see anything out of the ordinary to cause the VHF radio to go dead when the CB radio was keyed. My weakie squikey mobile setting next to Rays Bronco didn't even phase the old VHF Gonset Receiver. Closer examination showed us that the Bronco had a Black Cat 75 Linear Amplifier mounted to the Bronco's Firewall inside the engine compartment. And a Aluminum sheet metal was made to be a heat shroud protecting the Black Cat 75 Linear Amplifier. Rather well discised I must say. After tuning the Plate and Load of the Black Cat Linear Amplifier the interference to the VHF receiver went away. And Ray was a big strap with a massive 50 watts of output power. Ray use to go Deer Hunting with his Bronco in the San Gaberial Mountains behide our little town. You could hear Ray (Buckshot) and Jim (Jimmy Cat) for miles and miles when they where on top of the mountains. Many a skip station would try to get to Ray, but he didn't answer just to irrate eleveone else. But the antics between these two was a priceless entertaiment show at all times...............
