What's with Windows 98SE?
Either he likes unstable operating systems, needs to able to directly access the hardware with old programs or he doesn't have a copy of Windows 2000. A lot of old games didn't run under 2000 either. All hardware and memory calls need permission from the OS under NT/2000/XP. |

It was terrible. I still have it on this PC, win 98SE. But it boots in Linux, and many win apps run in linux windows emulator wine. Uptimes of 30 days and more are normal for my system. But my scanner (paper scanner, not radio), and CD label printing soft works only in that win98SE..... Hey even the tax office had Linux program for download for income tax, I used it. So, MS software will likely be illegal soon in Europe. Not that you could get a Vista anyways before Christmass LOL I find that radio site impressive actually, ver\y nice stuff there, do not have the space and money for that. Really enjoyed the pictures. Linux has ax25 and some nice packet radio soft too. |

When contesting at 50 watts in the summer, you _NEED_ cooling! My heat sink fins are three inches deep. I'm thinking that I can take my dremel and cut into the fins so the fan or fans will be inset and out of harms way while still protecting the unit. I use mine at less than the maximum power anyway so I don't have heat problems in the house, but during the summer in the truck the temp can get up there in a hurry. |

I find one minute of AM makes my amp hotter then 5 minutes of sideband. The radio on the left runs FM. That's a constant 5, 10 or 50 watts. I wish it had another mid power setting at 25 watts. Sometimes 10 isn't enough and 50 is too much. It's also been modified to do MURS. The 667 has a few fins pushed over to grab the course pitch screws in the lower mounting holes. The finger guard is attached to the upper holes. That amp is strapped and will draw a good 90 amps, about 1,250 DC watts! That fan turns on when the power button is depressed. I switched the one on the Icom. I'm a real good sandbagger sometimes and cold air will blow after a few minutes of shutup time. |

Wasn't sure if you had converted it to operate on other bands. And not being a ham I don't even know the wattage limitations on I think you said 2 meters. The pills are only good to 30 or 50 MHz depending on the part number. The broadband transformers limit it even more so. I should take a picture of the inside of this busted HTX-212 and this 2 meter amp so you can see the difference in RF circuitry inside them. |
