*** NOTES FROM THE EDITOR (by Tedd, KB8NW): Well, I am still recovering
from the Dayton HamVention weekend. It was a rough week at work, and
I guess my age is beginning to show. Hopefully, I will be back to
normal next week. You may also note that this week's bulletin is
extra long (two weeks of announcements). I also included an extra
page this week on stations that were expected to be in this past
weekend's CQ WPX CW Contest (Sorry, I could not get it out sooner).
Anyway, Dayton was great, as usual. The SWODXA DX Dinner provided
DXers with a good meal and a great VP6DX presentation by Eric, K3NA.
The VP6DX QSL cards should be arriving soon from the printers (within
two weeks). DXers will be really surprised when they receive their
collectable QSL card (a 32 page booklet with pictures from the
DXpedition). It will be worth the wait Eric states. Eric also did
a presentation during the DX Forum at Hara Arena which was excellent
and different from the DX Dinner. During the DX Dinner the SWODXA
announced their annual "DXpedition of the Year" award and it went to
the 2007 BS7H operation. They also announced during the dinner the
CQ magazine's 2008 CQ DX Hall of Fame inductees (see below).
Other interesting things for DXers during the HamVention included
the SWODXA's DX Forums which had a very good line-up of presentions
on 3B7C, J5C, VP6DX and TX5C. I would also like to mention the great
turnout for the NODXA Hospitality Suite by many notable world-wide
DXers. The suite was open most nights until 1:00 am. Thanks to those
who attended. It may have been long nights and early mornings, but
I enjoyed myself.
Lastly, I would like to mention that OPDX Webmaster John, K8YSE,
has put together his annual HamVention listing of losing ticket numbers
(those who did not stay for door prizes - with the list of prizes they
could have won) and the winning ticket numbers of main prizes on the
OPDX Web page at: http://www.papays.com/opdx.html

NEW DX SUMMIT NOW AVAILABLE AS OF FRIDAY, MAY 23RD! A press release from
Jarmo, OH2BN, states (edited): "The original OH2AQ DX Summit was launched
in 1998. It represented something that changed the entire DX hunt. Spinning
the dial became old history that would never return.
Yasme Foundation President Wayne Mills, N7NG, put it as follows; 'Jukka
Salomaa, OH2BUA and Antti Kantola, OH5TB were awarded the Yasme Excellence
Award for conceiving, operating, and maintaining the DX Summit, the first
widely used Web-based spotting network portal. They created a tool that
fundamentally changed the nature of HF operating, a true advancement of the
radio art.'
The OH2AQ Summit has been a reliable tool for DX spotting for ten years.
It was based on a concept and the computing power of those other days.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of this innovation.
The New DX Summit, operated by Arcala Extremes, OH8X and supported by
Yasme Foundation Inc., boasts a dramatic increase in computing power
with the latest available equipment providing easy access to configure a
Microsoft Server 2003 platform. State-of-the-art multiple servers are
located in California, USA for fast information throughput and massive
data storage. A huge amount of data will be retrieved for potential
future applications. The system has been developed by Admino Technologies
Ltd. located in Oulu, Northern Finland. http://www.adminotech.com
Traffic congestion should be a thing of the past. You can sample the
speed and functionality during this coming weekend's WPX Contest. You
should reconfigure your setup to http://www.dxsummit.fi (please update
your browser bookmarks) because the original OH2AQ DX Summit will close
down soon.
While the new system begins as a stepped-up carbon copy of the original
system, it will provide an advanced technical platform for many new
features that are on the drawing board as we speak.
Arcala Extremes, OH8X is a group of serious hams seeking technical
innovations, experimenting with advanced radio and antenna concepts to
further the evolution of amateur radio by using the competitive spirit
as their trademark to attract young people. Their stations, OH8X and CU2A,
are located in Oulu, Northern Finland and Azores Islands respectfully.
Yasme Foundation http://www.yasme.org is a non-profit corporation
undertaking scientific and educational projects related to amateur
radio, including DXing and the introduction and promotion of amateur
radio in developing countries."

NEW FREQUENCIES FOR ITALY. It was announced effective May 13, 2008,
Italian amateur radio operators will be authorized to use the frequencies
between 7100-7200 kHz (on a secondary basis), using only a total radiated
power not exceeding 24 dbW.

VK9D, WILLIS ISLAND (DXpedition Update). A press release (#3) dated May
24th, on the new VK9DWX Web site at http://www.vk9dwx.de states,
the DXpedition Team was rather active during the last couple of months.
Excerpts advise readers that the team has found substantial support in
VK-Land through Dale, VK4DMC who lives near Cairns, Queensland. Dale has
been helping them by talking to local ship-owners, authorities and logistic
companies. The team has also added two new operators to their DXpedition:
Robert/SP5XVY - SSB/RTTY operator and was a member of the VP6DX team
Gerd/DJ5IW - No details available
A QSL Manager has been announced. QSLs will be going to Mario, DJ2MX, who
did a very reliable job after their VK9DNX DXpedition. Details on planning
their antenna and station setups is still being worked out by Joerg/DL8WPX.
They want to have four stations with full legal power on the air operating
at the same time and also on the same band in different modes, if situation
is requiring. Their location will be very close to the beach. Antennas will
be vertical antennas on all bands, with arrays from 80-10m. They will have
beverages for better receiving possibilities on the low bands. The team
has not yet decided to operate 6 meters. Donations are coming in but are
still needed. A list of contributors is available in the complete press
release on their Web page.

VP2, MONTSERRAT (NA-103). Graham, M0AEP, will be active as VP2MDD from
June 7-19th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters with 200W and a Carolina
Windom antenna. Also, look for operations on 6 meters. He will use a 5
element yagi and 100 watts. QSL via M0AEP, direct or by the bureau.

YU8, KOSOVO. Boyan, LZ1BJ, is now active from here using the callsign
YU8/LZ1BJ. Boyan informs OPDX that he will be here over the next few
months. Activity has begun on 10 meter SSB and 40/20 meters RTTY/PSK.
He told OPDX that he plans to be on 40/30/20/17/15/12/10 meters using
CW, SSB, PSK31 and RTTY. QSL via LZ QSL Bureau.

ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS (Update/6m Op). Operators Jim/K4BI and Mario/K2ZD are
planning a major 6m DXpedition here. Look for them to sign ZF2BI and
ZF2ZD, respectively, between June 20th and July 6th. They will be running
an ACOM amp into a 6M5X. Look for them on 50.105 MHz. Their beacon will
be on 50.095 MHz. Emphasis will again be EU, AF, SA and AS, but will of
course work NA. They will have HF capability but don't plan on being there
very much or very often. QSL via their home callsign.

ZS8, MARION ISLANDS. Still no activity reported. For updates and the first
offical announcement of ZS8T being on the air, please visit the official
