The GB3VHF 2m beacon is to close down in December 2008
After nearly fifty years of near continuous service from the trans-
mitting station at Wrotham in Kent (JO01DH), the 2 metre beacon
GB3VHF will fall silent towards the end of December 2008. For a
good few years the beacon enjoyed the site facilities at Wrotham
by means of a 'peppercorn rent'. At this time the site was owned
and operated by the amateur radio friendly BBC. Full details can
be found in the press release at http://www.gb3vhf.co.uk/

We did get a link with the following Info by Ian, G0AFH, Gaetan
ON4KHG and Kevin, G1KAW and would like to open a discussion at
our MMMonVHF FORUM:

SPORADIC E in the southern hemisphere
As you might have been seen in past weeks we did build up a new
SPORADIC E Service page as well for the southern hemisphere where
the summer (and so sporadic e) will occure hopefully soon. PLEASE
have a look at: http://www.mmmonvhf.de/es_s.php and use the input
at these page for an opening in the SOUTH. The switch between the
both areas are made in the drop down menue at PROPAGATION...
MMMonVHF is trying to give an overview of Sporadic E on other
continents than Europe and is asking to send reports of Sporadic E
openings that occured on 144 MHz worldwide!

NASA astronomers have set up a monitoring station to scan the night
sky for unknown or unexpected meteor showers and they're finding
more than they bargained for. In only two months of observing,
the newly commissioned system has captured a flurry of meteors
from an unknown comet. More details see:

Netherlands Antilles to net new DXCC Entities for 2008 Over the past
year much discussion has been made about the possibility of new DXCC
entities happening once the break-up/disbanding of the Netherlands
Antilles takes effect on December 15th, 2008. This past week, the
President of European DX Foundation (EUDXF), Hans, PB2T, who visited
ARRL HQ in July and had a discussion about the DXCC status of Netherlands
Antilles, feels that after December 15th, 2008, it looks like four new
entities will be added to the DXCC list in the future (Curacao, Sint
maarten, Saba, Sint Eustatius and Bonaire).
