just worked on PSK31.
He's operating the Iraqi station by remote control from San Francisco. Did I read somewhere that this doesn't count for DXCC? (I do have a valid YI confirmed on CW) -- Doug Smith W9WI Pleasant View (Nashville), TN EM66 http://www.w9wi.com |

I dunno, but if it does, it should count for W6. (I do have a valid YI confirmed on CW) Mine's on SSB. I can see it now. Some rich guy builds (okay, has built) an h-f station remotely controlled by a satellite link. He has it dropped via helicopter on BS7 at low tide. He works himself and makes #1 on the Honor Roll. |

Doug,
This counts for DXCC. Was reported in the ARRL letter some time ago. The actual transmitter is in Iraq. No matter where the operator is...KH7R is another remote control example often run from W7 in contests. 73 Dave K4JRB |

That's too bad...
Part of why I like DXing is the connection between people a long distance apart... it just doesn't seem the same if it's got to go all the way over fiber too.. It's pretty cool technology though. I suppose it should count for DXCC, especially if it lets more people get some of the rare ones. I wonder what the status of doing something like the previous poster suggested and dropping a remote station on Scarborough would be... weatherproof shell, Iridium data link... tidal power generation.... stick a BiggIR vertical on top and some trailing wires down into the water and it could easily QSY.... it'd be like having a resident operator. Not as cool as contacting some crazy guys and gals actually sitting in the middle of nowhere on a little rock, I think. Dan N3OX David Thompson wrote: Doug, This counts for DXCC.
