You may wish to re-post this question to rec.radio.family
As there is no GMRS dedicated newsgroup it is folded in with the FRS group,
and there are many knowledgeable individuals who can help. There are a few
assholes as well :O)

Good Luck

Gee, did the FCC make a mistake in issuing my GMRS license for 50
watts? Not bloody likely.

You are correct. The information that I read was old. It used to be limited to
2 watts, apparently. 50 watts is the legal limit for GMRS.

GMRS used to have 2 different licenses-one with a max of 5 watts, and one
with a limit of 50 watts.

After I posted that message, I found that you can use 50 watts on some
frequencies. I know that on the frequencies that are shared with FRS, there's a
5 watt limit. On the other, exclusively GMRS frequencies, it's 50 watts. I've
applied for a GMRS license as this would probably be a good way to keep in
touch with my wife without having to bother with the cell phone. Now I've gotta
find a decent base or mobile unit.
