Default K.C. (ST. JOE) HAMFEST THIS WEEKEND!

This weekend is the annual St. Joseph, MO. hamfest!
It is just north of K.C. on I-29 at exit # 47 at the Holiday Inn.
The event starts around 8 am saturday (around 6am for flea market set up).
It is a wonderful show that is growing better each year so load up all your
gear and come sell it this saturday.
There will be all kinds of vendors selling new radios, antennas, and all
kinds of ham radio products.
See your there!

No you won't "see me there!". Ham fests are the biggest collection of
inbred white trash with the possible exception of any NASCAR event. No
doubt you will draw a crowd though. The moonshine and oppossum with
viddles vendors will show in force. As will the flea marketeers with
their Jerry Springer, Hee Haw and WWF tapes, confederate flags and
(ooooh pinch me I must be dreaming!) velvet Elvis artworks!

If any of you haven't attended one of these beauty pagents I would
recommend you do so at least once (which is plenty enough for one
lifetime) just for the entertainment value found in observing the
crowd. Watching the double digit IQ rednecks mill about with their
"better halfs" trailing two steps behind them is truly a sight to
behold. When you think you've seen the fattest and ugliest of the herd
another fat disgusting foul smelling slob will meander on by. Hilarious.

So what you're saying is you're upset that the men aren't physically
attractive at this hamfest? Wow. Now we know about you.

Try paying more attention to the programs they have to offer and the
educational experience you may get out of this. Oh, wrong person,
nevermind, LOL.

As an astronomy educator with a degree in physics and an interest in ham
radio, I resent this wildly inaccurate and narrow minded view of the
kind of folks who attend hamfests.

It would be all too easy to sling epithets at this fellow who signs his
name as "asswideshut" but I think his own words speak volumes about his
character... or complete lack thereof.

Who am I?

P.S. Before he feels compelled to reply, he should know he's already in
the killfile.

And, when I see the outrageous prices being developed on the auction
websites (eg. eBay), I'm very happy to go to hamfests, look at real
equipment (up close), ask questions, and I'm happy to dicker over price to
mutual satisfaction and without having to go back multiple times to eBay
to worry, sweat out the bidding, and maybe end up with a rustbucket PoC,
that works less well than advertised (if you get anything more than "The
lights come on when you turn the switch").

You have a problem with people? You're probably seeing a lot better
example of real human life than if you traveled most of the world (eg.
India, China, 3rd world) and see what poverty, starvation, and disease is
all about. I have rarely been offended by anyone at a hamfest.

I quit attending the winter St. Joseph hamfest quite a few years ago. The
parking around the Ramada (not Holiday Inn, dude...) is horrible and tables
are poorly laid out in the atrium area around the indoor pool. Always seems
to have lots of ice and snow piled on the parking lot.

One nice thing is you can "sneak" into this hamfest through most of the
hotel entrances and bypass the admission table like everyone else does. Kind
of makes up for the ****ty parking...
