Ok, Here's a new one for me, but perhaps one of you has solved it
already. One of my Icom 751 transceivers is acting odd... The T/S button and DFS button seem to do the correct thing, but I can't switch bands. Pressing the band switch in causes the frequency to display at a much higher rate than normal. (with the Band button in, the frequency changes so rapidly that it appears to be about 1000 times faster than with it off.) The frequency display moves through a given band, then goes to the bottom of the band and repeats... You can't get the radio to move out of whatever band it started in. At first, I thought the band button was broken, before I realized that pressing it in causes the display to change MUCH faster than when it is not depressed. Also, pressing the RIT button or the XIT button causes the RIT or XIT to flash momentarily on the display (as I press the button in, it happens about half way down on the button press) but RIT or XIT is not engaged... The Ham/Gene switch also seems to have no effect. The radio display just will not go beyond the band I happen to get when I turn on the radio. I pulled the standard Icom ram board and put a PIEXX ramboard replacement in, (from a 751A that works just fine) and it doesn't change the symptom, only the frequency range happens on another band. OK, so have any of you radio gurus out there heard of this problem, or encountered it and know of a fix? I've googled for 751 mods, repairs, problems and spent hours trying to find anything this way, and all I can seem to find are a few mods (some of which seem to indicate that failing electrolytic caps can cause a few other symptoms, but nobody has mentioned anything that sounds like my problem...) Thanks --AH7H |
