How to work satelites?

How to work satelites?

I am new to ham. I have a 2 meter only mobile rig in my truck. I have
been thinking of getting a dual mode 2m 440 for the truck. Could I work
a satelite form my truck with this radio? Can I work on with just my
current 2 meter only and scanner? Can I use a homemade antenna? Thanks
for any help!
