LMX2326 & Homebrew

I'm in possestion of 4 LMX2326 PLL IC's and I'm looking for projects
to use them in.

I was thinking of building and designing an RF Signal Generator but
I'm confused about the VCO. Is it possible to use the LMX2326 to drive
a VCO built up of discrete components or do you have to work with an
VCO IC like the ones from minicircuits?
