I'll have to take your word for that (No! Don't elaborate!) but it has certainly been true over the years that these NGs are plagued by childish forms of self-expression from CBers-masquerading-as-radio-amateurs who are completely ignorant of the twin gentlemanly and technical traditions of amateur radio. One has to hope that they are in decline and that no novices are put off amateur radio by their anti-social commentaries. |

In my book, the _REAL_ radio amateur is someone who relishes a technical challenge and the route to solving it, an approach resulting from an insatiable curiosity about how things work, in contrast to the CBer-masquerading-as-a-radio amateur who is a non-technical appliance operator. If one's interest lies, say, antennas or propagation effects, both very valid areas of interest to an amateur licensee, then the radio itself becomes little more than a signal source or detector and is essentially irrelevant. You seem to be obsessed with CB. -- Jim Pennino |

Thus, it is the pursuit of a goal that is more rewarding than the goal itself, and when one project is finished, apart from a short session on the air to evaluate its efficacy, it is on to the next project. (In my case, still keeping a log book although no longer required to do so, I am only half way through my second log book in 45 years of being licensed). Some projects get to fruition quickly, for example my Chinese copy of a Vibroplex, photos of which appeared in the GQRP SPRAT magazine within a very few weeks of starting it, whereas others may go on for years as the goalposts get shifted time and again! ======================== Gareth , What is the purpose of this eternal repeat , repeat ,repeat. May I suggest you "clear your internal memory" It is very necessary to address the eternal CBisation, CBisation, CBisation lest the powers-that-be see only the CB side of things and restrict our design and construction privileges. AIUI, there are already countries where only commercial rigs may be used. The other probelm is that the floodgates have been opened and there are large numbers of those (perhaps those who say such things as, "this eternal repeat , repeat ,repeat"?) who really are CBers-masquerading-as-radio-amateurs and object emotionally that they had been deceived into thinking that they were somehow _REAL_ radio amateurs. I suggest that you put me into your killfile if you dislike my attempts to maintain the technical and gentlemanly traditions of _REAL_ amateur radio. A very accurate assessment of Gareth's behaviour - well done 'Bo. Sometimes it's hard to believe that Hambo is Gareth's sole friend! It's the same the other way, though, Gareth often brands old Hambo as a CB'er masquerading as a radio amateur! What isn't so clear is how Gareth expected the following "poem" of his to best represent the gentlemanly traditions of amateur radio? "Monarchy is heinous, 'Cos the queen has an anus. She sits and squits Brown bits of ****." Speaking of his "poetry", I just remembered that I still have his book to send you. It's been packaged and ready to go for months, but I put it in my drawer and forgot about it, probably a consequence of some kind of primitive brain survival technique to cope with the trauma of having read the ****ing thing. I'll dispose of it in the mail to you this week! Get some booze in, mate, you won't want to tackle this **** sober. -- STC // M0TEY // twitter.com/ukradioamateur |
