Win;
The tower resembles a US Tower with the retracting cable which was used on some but not all models. I would assume the glass relays are in fact time delay relays used as part of a remote control circuit. I beleive this is the case because the US Tower controller without the remote control option can be fooled into failing to reverse direction if the up/down toggle is reversed while the motor is still moving. So if remote control were used there would need to be a delay when switching direction. As a part of your refurbishment you should replace each of the cables and inspect/ replace the pulleys. The pulleys have bearings which can fail and cause the cable to bind leading to failure. Do keep in mind that the tower is a pretty dangerous piece of machinery even if you are simply working with it laid out on the ground as the sections can trap your hands if they move while you are working on it. Once you get it erected, there is a lot of force on the cables and steel and so becomes even more dangerous to work with. You should study the assembly of the tower sections and cable arrangement carefully and create drawings and label each part and cable before disassembly. Feel free to e-mail me as I have refurbed one in the past and it worked out pretty well. Win wrote: I recently purchased an old crank-up motor driven 60 foot tower that I would hope someone could id for me. The motor belt drives a gearbox, which turns the cable pulley. It has a approximately 1 foot by 18 inch control box which has two high current relays and two glass contained relays. The glass-contained relays are in old 8 pin tube sockets. The tower, itself, is in good shape. I would like to re-build the control circuits and out the tower in service. Any information anyone can give me on this tower will be greatly appreciated.
