3A, MONACO. Carlos, EA1DVY, will be active as 3A/EA1DVY from February
23rd to March 3rd. Activity will be mainly on topband SSB, around 1843
kHz. Also, he will participate in the CQ WW 160 DX SSB Contest (February
23-24th) and ARRL International DX SSB Contest (March 1-2nd). QSL via

5X, UGANDA. Remember to look for Nick, G3RWF, to once again be active as
5X1NH from February 23rd to March 22nd. Activity will be limited because
he is on holiday. Activity will be on all bands except 160m and 6 meters.
Modes will be CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK. He will use 100 watts and wire
antennas. QSL via G3RWF.

8R, GUYANA. Just a reminder that operators Phil/G3SWH and Jim/G3RTE will
be active from Georgetown, Guyana, between February 22-29th. The licence
has already been issued and the callsign will be 8R1PW. As there have
been two operations from Guyana in 2007 which used mainly SSB, their
activity will be on CW only on all bands 160-10 meters. Propagation and
QRN permitting, they plan to have two stations on the air for as many
hours every day as possible. Their main objective is to work as many
European, North American and ROTW stations on as many bands as possible.

9X, RWANDA. Operators Baldur/DJ6SI, Karlheinz/DK2WV and Franz/DJ9ZB are
now active as 9X0X, 9X0W, and 9X0Z, respectively, until February 21st.
Activity over the past week has been on 40/30/20/17 meters, CW, SSB and
RTTY. QSL via their home callsigns.

9X, RWANDA. Members of the multi-national DXpedition team (9X0R) going
to Rwanda in March (See OPDX.841 and OPDX.843) have sent out a press
release expressing their "disagreement and disappointment of the three
German operators" now active from Rwanda (which are listed above). Because

DXCC NEWS. Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, reports that the following

AH0, MARIANA ISLANDS. Yu, 7K3BKY, will be active as AI4GN/AH0 from Saipan
Island (OC-086) from February 17-21st. He may (or will try to) be active
in the last few hours of the ARRL DX CW Contest on Sunday. QSL via his

C6, BAHAMAS (NA-001). Operators Tom/N1GN, Bill/NE1B and Karney/W2AFC
will be active as C6ANM during the CQ 160-Meter SSB Contest (February

and Bill/NE1B will be active as C6ANM during the ARRL DX SSB Contest

C9, MOZAMBIQUE (Update). Frosty, K5LBU/C91CF, reports that one of the
operators from his group has dropped out of the DXpedition to Mozambique
for July, and they are looking for one or two more operators to join them.
They plan on arriving in Maputo on the 16th of July and be picked up by
the folks from the Blue Anchor Inn where they will be operating from this
July. The same group will take them back to the airport on the 31st of July

CQ COMMUNICATIONS PRESS RELEASE (CQ Announces Expansion of WPX Award
Program - Digital Modes Added Along with New Bands). Richard Moseson,
W2VU, Editor, CQ Amateur Radio, provides the following press release
dated February 14th: "CQ magazine and WPX Awards Manager Steve Bolia,
N8BJQ, have announced several changes to the WPX Award program in response
to feedback from program participants. The changes, effective immediately,
add new bands and create a new Digital WPX Award.
Under the new rules, contacts on all bands between 160 and 6 meters
will count for WPX award credit. In addition, new band endorsements will
now be available for 5 MHz, 10 MHz, 18 MHz, 24 MHz and 50 MHz contacts.
A separate Digital WPX Award has also been added for contacts made on
RTTY, PSK and other keyboard modes, with 300 confirmed prefixes required
for the basic level of the award. Digital-mode contacts will also count
toward the existing Mixed award, as will those prefixes worked on the
newly added bands.
Details on these and other changes will be published in the March 2008
issue of CQ magazine and are posted along with the March issue highlights

The WPX Award Program recognizes amateurs for making confirmed contacts

EU-092. Col, MM0NDX, will be active as MM0NDX/p during the RSGB IOTA

OC-206. The VK6 DX Chasers Club, a sub-group of the Northern Corridor
Radio Group, is pleased to announce its next island expedition
to Faure Island, in Shark Bay, Western Australia. The group
will be active from the island from March 26th to April 1st,
using the callsign, VK6FAU. Activity will be SSB, CW and the
Digital modes on 80-6 meters. They will also try 160m. Full

J8, ST. VINCENT. Dave, G3TBK, will once again be active from here and
will sign J88DR between the ARRL DX Phone Contest (March 1-2nd) and the

LY90, LITHUANIA (Special Event). Look for 11 special event stations to
be active with the prefix LY90 from February 16th through March 16th,
to celebrate the 90th anniversary of independence in the Lithuanian
Republic. It was on February 16th, 1918, when Lithuania declared itself
independent. The Act of Independence of Lithuania (Lithuanian: Lietuvos
Nepriklausomybes Aktas) or Act of February 16 was signed by the Council
of Lithuania proclaiming the restoration of an independent State of
Lithuania, governed by democratic principles, with Vilnius as its capital.

FIRST BATCH OF FJ/OH2AM CARDS RELEASED TODAY. Jarmo, OH2BN, reported on
February 11th: "Due to a printing error on the front of the full-color
FJ/OH2AM card, the entire batch was rejected upon arrival of the coveted
cards in Finland. Another batch of QSLs was printed and they arrived in
Finland over this past weekend, February 10, and the first cards were
already released today. All direct requests should be out by March 15.
Sorry for any inconvenience. The ARRL will start processing St.
Barthelemy cards on April 1, so we are still on top of the matter."

TX5C, CLIPPERTON ATOLL DXPEDITION UPDATE. The TX5C group reports this

the DXpedition including more online log updates, webcams and live video
from Clipperton Atoll."

V3, BELIZE. Gerd/DJ4KW and Gisela/DK9GG will once again be active as
V31YN/p and V31GW/p, respectively, from Blue Marlin Lodge on Southwater
Caye (NA-180), February 19-26. Activity will be on all bands and modes.

V3, BELIZE. John/W5JON and his wife Cathy/W5HAM will be on Ambergris
Caye (NA-073) from March 26-31st. Look for John to be active as V31FB

(March 29-30th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. Years ago his wife Cathy
said that he could operate any contest from anywhere, "as long as it is
warm and there is a beach". This will be their 6th year on Ambergris Caye

IOTA DINNER. The 13th annual Islands On The Air (IOTA) Dinner will be
held on Friday, April 25th, in the Birch Room of the Holiday Inn Hotel
and Conference Center, 9000 W. Airport Drive, Visalia, CA 93277, in
conjunction with the 58th annual Visalia International DX Convention.
The event's program agenda is as follows:

QSL CARD CHECKING. There will be a DXCC QSL Card Field Check Session from
1 to 4 pm, on Saturday, 26 April 2008, in the Plaza Room of the Holiday
Inn Hotel & Convention Center, 9000 W. Airport Drive, Visalia, CA 93277,
in conjunction with the 59th Annual International DX Convention (IDC).
In addition to the DXCC QSL cards normally checked in the field, a
representative from the ARRL DXCC Desk will be present at the IDC,
permitting the field checking of both deleted and 160 meter QSL cards.
The IDC Field Check Session application line will begin forming in the
hallway outside the Plaza Room at 12:30 pm, with applicant processing
beginning promptly at 1 pm. The normal QSL card field checking session
limit (150 cards) will be waived, but priority will be given to checking
smaller number QSL card application packages (large QSL card check
packages may have to wait a bit longer).
Field check applicants should be prepared to present full packages,
consisting of: completed ARRL forms (available off the ARRL web site),
all QSL cards (sorted to match order in their forms), and payment (the
use of credit cards is highly encouraged to speed the application
process). Hybrid applications (those involving both field checked QSL
cards and Logbook of the World credits) will be accepted at this Field
Check session.

VP5/VQ5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. Dave, W5CW, will be active as VP5/W5CW
between March 27th and April 9th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters (this
will include 30/17/12m) CW/SSB. He will also be in the CQ WW WPX SSB
Contest (March 29-30th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry using the special

VP6, DUCIE ISLAND (Update). The VP6DX operation is very active and will
continue until they leave on February 28th. As this was being written,

XU, CAMBODIA. Retu, OH4MDY, will be active as XU7MDY from Sihanoukville
from April 3-14th. Activity will be on the HF bands using CW, SSB and
various digital modes. QSL only direct to XU7MDY address on QRZ.com.

YU8, KOSOVO. As expected, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia on
Sunday, February 17th. Read about it at:

A multi-national group of Amateur Radio operators is now in Kosovo in an
effort to support and help revitalize Amateur Radio locally. The initial
team members will begin sometime soon (possibly as this is being written).
Activity will be on all bands on CW and SSB. Look for YU8/G3TXF, YU8/N7NG,
YU8/OH2BH, YU8/OH2PM, YU8/ON8NC and YU8/W3UR. More details will be released
when available. QSL via the operator's home callsign. UPDATE - In addition
to the individual multi-national Amateur Radio operators (listed above)
currently in Kosova and operating with UNMIK licenses, the group will
soon begin activity as YU8/OH2R. The team currently has two stations
and will begin activity on 40-10 meters on SSB and CW. For more details

via OH2BN.

ZS8, MARION ISLAND. Rhynhardt, ZS6DXB, 3Y0E Pilot station and Media
Officer, announced this past week that Petrus, ex-3Y0E but currently
ZS6GCM/mm, will be a team leader for a new scientific team going to
Marion Island for 1 year. The arrangements for his activity from ZS8
are in progress now. Rhynhardt states, "Currently we try to collect
some equipment for Petrus to make his activity more complete, delivering
another most wanted DXCC entity to you at high level." Look for a new
ZS8 dedicated Web site to be activate (it is now under construction).
Its Web address will be published soon and more news regarding any
further activity of Petrus will be announced right there.
