We have been contacted by Bob McCoy, NBØB, who is acting as a disaster
response volunteer with the American Red Cross (ARC). He is currently working on contingency plans in the event that ARC needs additional communications support for the Missouri River flooding deployment. It now appears that volunteers may be needed to implement communications support for positions staffed by ARC volunteers. This situation could exist for an extended period as the Missouri River flooding will last for the next few months. This type of situation usually requires an initial response, expansion of the initial response to fill needed positions, and then a recurring need for replacement personnel as the situation continues. Bob has been in contact with the Nebraska and Iowa ARRL Section Managers and SECs. It is expected that the first counties to be involved are Sarpy, Douglas, and Washington. Bob will be working this with the emergency coordinators of those counties. We are letting you know about this as a “heads-up.” There are no specific requests for support at this time. We will keep you informed of the situation. If and when a request comes in, the response will be coordinated with county Emergency Coordinators. 73, Jon KAØJGG, Nebraska Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC) -------------------------------------------------------------------- ARRL Nebraska Section Section Manager: Arthur I Zygielbaum, K0AIZ -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
