Leonardo's Discovery Warehouse and Adventure Quest will host the first
American Radio Relay League Kids Day on Saturday. The event is part of a
national event held each year and is sponsored by Enid Area Ham Radio Club.
The day is intended to get kids interested in Ham Radio. The Enid Amateur
Radio Club was founded in 1936 and has included prominent members, such as
astronaut Owen K. Garriott. Garriott previously has credited Ham Radio and
getting him interested in subjects such as electrical engineering,
eventually leading to him becoming an astronaut. Throughout the day
Saturday, kids around the country will have an opportunity to communicate
with one another using Ham Radio. High frequency, very high frequency and
ultra high frequency radio rigs will be available for kids to use and make
contact with kids from around country.

Hams Gear Up to Set Long Distance Records, Practice Emergency Communication

PASO ROBLES -- Members of the Paso Robles Amateur Radio Club will work
around the clock this weekend to set up field radio communication stations,
get on the air and contact thousands of other operators in the U.S. and
Canada as participants in the American Radio Relay League's Field Day.
According to Joel Kaye, AD6KH, club president, Field Day is the
annual "shakedown run" for the ARRL's National Field Organization. "Field
day is a way for hams to get outdoors and have fun under some difficult
conditions," Kaye said. "But it's also a chance to fine tune emergency
communication skills. We use generators and battery power, and we set up
antennas in the field. The idea is to put together a self-sufficient,
working station quickly and begin making contacts." The ARRL Field
Organization has been effective in establishing emergency communication
nets during floods, hurricanes, fires, earthquakes and other major
disasters. Field Day offers training for such emergencies as well as
providing a contest environment where the objective is to make the highest
number of contacts during the 24-hour contest period.

Members of the Orange County Wheelmen bicycle club started and finished
their 28th Annual 'Ride Around the Bear' in Redlands. Ham radio volunteers
with San Bernardino County helped monitor the Orange County Wheelmen's
100-mile "Ride Around the Bear," which started and finished Saturday at
Sylvan Park in Redlands. Jeff Sabatini manned one of 12 comm sites on
Highway 38's dogleg curve at the Forest Falls turnoff in Mill Creek Canyon.
He had his pickup rigged with a radio tower to increase his signal output
and reception in the steep-sided mountain gulch. "Ham radio works when
everything else won't," Sabatini said. "This is good practice for emergency
situations. Fire, flood, earthquakes."

Modern Day Heroes of Tele-Communications Revealed:

Novato, CA, June 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- HeroBook features the great men
behind the evolution of the telephone. They are our modern heroes of today
for without their brilliant innovations, the world would be different from
what it is at present. If we talk about the history of telephones,
Alexander Graham Bell's name would have a ring to it. However, electronic
communications didn't begin with the telephone although it is considered as
the first speech transmitter. Alexander Bain created the first patented
facsimile where the images from a flat metal surface are scanned by a
stylus then transmitting it to another fax machine. After his invention,
many have created improved versions. Years later when Samuel Morse was able
to convince the government to fund his transmitter's wires, the Morse code
communication using the telegraph was opened to the masses. It was one of
the widely used devices during the time of War. After these three origins
of electronic communication devices, various innovations sprouted for the
past century.
