/////////////////////////////////////////// Tuner SWR or Transceiver SWR? Posted: 27 Feb 2017 01:35 AM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...er-swr.555532/ OK... Heres my question. When I tune up for highest output power, lowest reflected power using the meter on the tuner itself and get a 1:1 swr, then the swr meter on my transceiver a 1:3+ reading. If I tune to see a 1:1 on the transceiver then I see a high swr on the tuners meter. Which swr reading should I pay attention to when tuning? I use a yaesu ftdx3000 and a palstar AT5K. /////////////////////////////////////////// Best type of co-ax to bury sub-soil? Posted: 27 Feb 2017 12:41 AM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...b-soil.556929/ I want to erect two beverage antennas, for reception on LF and one LF antenna for TX. What are the best types of co-ax to bury sub-soil and not deteriorate too much? Being LF might help keeps cost down, but the TX one would have to be co-ax able to handle a kilowatt or more. Runs would be 50 meters or so for the RX one and 100 meters or so for TX. Thanks. /////////////////////////////////////////// How to avoid climbing a tower Posted: 26 Feb 2017 10:45 PM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...-tower.557060/ Hello, I have to admit I am scared of heights. I cant climb 40ft up a tower. I have a 40 ft tower I want to put up for my tribeam. When I put it up we are going to tie a rope to the top, tip the tower up to a 45 degree angle from the ground and then pull the tower up with the rope the rest of the way. My question is this. Is there a way to permanently attach a cable at the top of the tower to raise and lower it w/o someone (after it is up) climbing the tower and attaching another rope... Im a relatively new technician sitting for my general in March. So Im researching HF antenna setups. My QTH is a two story town home community. Roof tops are about 20-25 feet. I CANNOT put up anything permanent and do not have access to the attic. I DO have mgmt permission to put up an antenna while Im operating but have to take it down when done. So Im trying to figure out the BEST antenna setup for my situation. Im thinking I know the answer but would love to hear from... The coil is wound with 50 turns of 22 gauge solid insulated wire on a piece of 1 1/4in. dia. phenolic 3.5 in. long, tapped at 3, 10, 20 and 30 turns. I have both a mfj 259 and an swr meter. How can i determine what bands this will work on. I just bought a Bitx40 and would... Questions about old qrp tuner /////////////////////////////////////////// What balun is this? Posted: 26 Feb 2017 03:31 PM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...s-this.556925/ Here is a couple of pictures of what I think may be an end-fed balun--but thats my guess. No markings on the box. All I can tell, there are two torroid cores, maybe 2-3" in diameter, with 3 wires wrapped around them. There are a couple of zip ties on the wires, but I see 5 total windings. Looks like a ground on one winding goes to one post, and another ground goes to another post. If thats what I recall about end-feds, there is usually a counterpoise/ground connection, and the... Posted: 26 Feb 2017 02:12 PM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...tripod.556968/ I have seen it for sale at Hamfests in Az, but cannot find any info about it. I saw it used while camping at the Yuma hamfest about a week ago. It has some capacitor plates ostensibly to improve ground coupling. I want to model a 1/4 wave vertical on that radial field (WITH 120 radials) using EZNEC just t see if its worth the effort. Is there an easy way or tool to set up the radials without working out each end point using trig? I see it can be done easily for a circular radial field but I dont know for a rectangular one. I keep it tied off to the deck railing, and it always tightens up with the branch swaying and all even though Ive got the rope going over the branch with a piece of irrigation tubing. When it gets tight, it starts singing like crazy in the wind. Ive tried tying it in places to a close by pipe, but all that does is change where it vibrates from. How do I... Vibrating ropes |
