Default "Fony Fonetics?"

Hi,

Years ago, I had a list, now long lost, of "Fony Fonetics." It was a
humorous phonetic alphabet of words which either were odd exceptions
where the sound did not match the spelling, or were exotic and hard to
distinguish over the air, such as using syzygy for "S" or Gemini for
"G." I tried the usual Google route, and am wondering if anyone
happens to have a list. I think the original may have been in one of
the ham magazines.

I don't know if I found the one you had, but here's one from rec.humor.funny

The same old standard phonetic alphabet (which you
would use to describe spelling "Wilson" as "Whiskey, India,
Lima, Sierra, Oscar, November") has been used by aircraft
pilots, millitary personnel, and many others for many years
now. So, I finally decided to come up with something a bit
more "original" for those people who annoy me:

A Are N Nine
B Bee O Owe
C Cite P Pseudonym
D Double-U Q Queue
E Eye R Rap
F Five S Sea
G Genre T Tsunami
H Hoe U Understand?
I I V Vie
J Junta W Why
K Knot X Xylophone
L Lye Y You
M Me Z Zero

People don't ask me to spell anything over the
phone anymore.

****************

From uk.radio.amateur

A - arear
B - beer
C - cheer
D - deer
E - ear
F - fear
G - gear
H - hear
I - idea
J - jeer
K - keyer
L - leer
M - mere
N - near
O - oesophagus
P - peer
Q - queer
R - rear
S - seer
T - tear
U - urea
V - veer
W - weir
X - xylophone (!)
Y - year
z - zaire

and a followup

Aye
Bee
Cue
Double-u
Ell
Four
Gibe
Hour
Iambic
Jay
Knot
Lye
Mnemonic
Nine
Owe
Pea
Quay
Repeat
See
Tea
Urn
Veldt
Write
Xenon
You
Zero

And here's one in

Aeon

Bdellium

Cereal

Djakarta

Euphoria

Futtock

Gnome

Ian

Jalepeņo

Knee

Llama

Mnemonic

Ngami

Oedipus

Steve,

It is too long ago to remember exactly, but those are all exactly the
type of thing I remember. Many thanks! I definitely need to head
over to rec.humor.funny as well.
