![]() Perturbation /////////////////////////////////////////// VE1DX, QRT on HF Posted: 29 Feb 2016 06:42 AM PST http://ke9v.net/2016/02/29/ve1dx-qrt-on-hf/ A few days ago I was searching for something online and was directed to one of the many Web pages curated by Paul Dunphy, VE1DX. But there was nothing there. The page had been removed. A little more research revealed that his site has been mostly culled and no longer exists. I made a quick visit to his listing on QRZ and was greeted with this: QRT on HF. As the saying goes, its the journey, not the destination. I was a DXer and achieved #1 Honor Roll plus DXCC on 10 bands and 3 modes. There is little left to chase. I dismantled my HF station and my logs are closed. There are other aspects of Ham Radio I plan to pursue. Its been fun, and its time to move on. 73, Paul VE1DX This was of particular interest to me since Im on a similar trajectory. To go QRT on HF not the DX Honor Roll, but for similar reasons. Ive spent nearly forty years on HF and now one contact blends easily into another. I could spend the rest of my life on HF but fail to see the point. Its been a fantastic journey and Ive certainly learned a lot about shortwave propagation, antenna design, and operating procedures mostly CW. But Ive done that and now comes time to chase other avenues of radio fun. Still, reading Dunphys words about his decision to step away from a lifetime of HF activity was like a cold splash of water in the face. Sobering. Serious. Final. |
