I'm quite comfortable with the FCC definition. Personally, I prefer the definition of Amateur Radio provided by the ARRL, RAC, RSGB (and most other Amateur Radio organizations) - a hobby activity. From a regulatory perspective, it is a service provided to the public. It's what we do with that service that makes it a hobby - and an excellent one at that! ....although sitting on the porch with a dozen beers may also have some merit - I'll check that one out this summer :P snip 73, Leo |
