I spent seven years as N3CRA while stationed in Germany and New York, and subsequently spent six years as WR2F while stationed in Colorado and Delaware. Holding an out-of-area call sign has been "legal" for at least as long as I've been a ham, and that's over 23 years now. Wayne now seems to be a sucker for every half-baked idea that comes along. (heard the program, sad.) I heard the broadcast myself, in it's entirety. It made me cringe. If I had not been reading his "Never Say Die" Editorials (purely for fun) in 73 Magazine for years, I would have thought that this guy was a total fruitcake, and so must be everyone else who claims to be a "ham radio" operator. I'm concerned that a lot of non-ham listeners may have reached that very conclusion, but then again, those who listen to "Coast to Coast" are probably already predisposed in that direction. The only reason I listened was that I was taking a long night-drive from Delaware to New York, and that W2NSD just happened to be the "Guest Nutcase" that evening. 73 de Larry, K3LT |
