"an_old_friend" wrote Trek is taught in enas such in major universities.... Riiiiight! It's a canceled TV show and a few poorly done movies. Seven major motion pictures from Paramount Studios. Plus two documentaries concerning Star Trek fandom. Five TV series (1966 to 2004) each lasting longer than two seasons: [the original series] "The Next Generation" "Deep Space 9" "Voyager" "Enterprise" Hundreds of printed-matter publications ranging from "manuals" to novels covering all the series' characters in plots and settings based on the series' background but enlarging on the basic premises. Thousands of licensed (to Paramount) Star Trek itmes sold in many places from department stores to science-fiction conventions. Phrases such as "Beam me up, Scotty" have become part of our word culture as has the "transporter" and "phaser." ["set your phaser to 'stun' (or 'kill')" to solve a problem] Paramount Studies (and the Gene Roddenberry estate) have made millions of dollars in profit on the 38-year "history" of Star Trek. It is Big Business and remains profitable. ah now you choose to insult Treekies WTF is a "Treekies"? It is more correct to call them "Trekkers," avid trekkers having about the same need for exclusivity and belonging as all the radio amateurs who think that amateur radio is "so much MORE" than a hobby. Give us a hint on how many letters we need to change your insult into English. As I remarked before, it takes only ONE letter change to turn "Worf" into "wolf." Or vice-versa. Now, Herr Worf, I suggest you have a glass of "a drink fit for warriors" (as Worf has remarked more than once)... prune juice. |

He takes a tip from Dave; deliberate misunderstanding. Now, Herr Worf, I suggest you have a glass of "a drink fit for warriors" (as Worf has remarked more than once)... prune juice. He might feel better after a couple of hours. Or he might not. In either case, I hope his proposal to modernize the amateur service makes it to an NPRM. worf is just worf an stevi nkows it. _________________________________________ Usenet Zone Free Binaries Usenet Server More than 140,000 groups Unlimited download http://www.usenetzone.com to open account |

He takes a tip from Dave; deliberate misunderstanding. I disagree. Hans is a long-time mariner and his "wetware" is more concerned with water than speculative fiction. A "wharf" is most directly related to "wet" things, a place to dock ships. Ships float in water. Ships need good handlers with good "wetware" to maneuver them. Now, Herr Worf, I suggest you have a glass of "a drink fit for warriors" (as Worf has remarked more than once)... prune juice. He might feel better after a couple of hours. Or he might not. It's been said that "a prune is a plum with experience." :-) Actually, I've always liked the taste of prunes, they being both sweet and tart at the same time. A personal favorite dessert is prune whip, mashed prunes in meringue. If I need to "speed up" bowel movements I take a laxative. :-) In either case, I hope his proposal to modernize the amateur service makes it to an NPRM. SO DO I! One class of license, no morse code test, all bands anytime, everything optional. Free, open, for life. A one-time "entry level" license for those who need to learn, adjust to a new environment...non-renewable, make it in ten years or give up and go to another hobby. It's almost too revolutionary...many of the existing hams just can't handle that. "The bands" don't exist JUST for the existing hams, they are for ALL in the immediate future. Option is no failure. |

If a person needs status that might come from holding an amateur license, they will have to do so through deeds, not a government supported merit madge system. |

There you guys go...Dissing Madge again...What did SHE ever do to YOU...?!?! Wasn't Madge the dish soap lady? I think Madge has a LOT of merits, most of all that she HAS an Amateur license. Didn't know that. What was her call? Lennie doesn't. That means Madge's stock is worth more in an Amateur Radio forum. Steve, K4YZ What symbol does Madge's stock trade under? Poor Steve, always trying to redirect a discussion of amateur radio policy. |
