Peter, G3PHO Perhaps troll is the wrong word Peter; however I still feel that Gareth's prose should not put off anyone interested in AR especially someone with such an apparent pedigree. Peter, G3PHO It is no wonder wherever he goes he is loathed, I wonder if his wife knows that he condones the murders of children, and police officers etc. The "Orator For Decency" would not know the meaning of decency, he appears to be a bitter, evil, and twisted little 'man' , if it were not for visits from the police I doubt if he would have any visitors. His inferiority complex must give him sleepless nights. |

Hi Trevor
Well, I was surprised by the animosity. If I were to regularly meet that within on air conversations I would be quite bothered I think. I remembered the hobby as being very gentlemanly and was therefore qute suprised. I think I may just lurk about an some of the HF / VHF bands and see what actually happens before deciding to get my iron out again. I'm seeing my old mate G4GCO tonight for a few beers, no doubt we will discuss this as well. Thanks for the comments 73 Andy - G8LIR |

It seems that maybe this is not the general view of class B after all. I'm going to lurk about on HF/VHF for a while listening and see how it goes down, maybe I'll get my iron out then and do some stuff. Thanks for the advice all Andy G8LIR |

From what you write below, you would seem to qualify as
a _REAL_ Radio Ham, the essence of Radio Hammery, and pursuing activities that the FAQ praises. To get as far as the bit you quote below, you must have read the opening paragraphs which speak in support of the style of Radio Hammery which you say is you, and so it is difficult to understand why you should seem to take offence at remarks which clearly are not directed at you. As you say below, you have been "out of it" for a number of years, so it is unlikely that you were aware of the gangrenous degeneration that is the M3/CB Fools' Licence scheme or that you availed yourself of the facility. The groups which are criticised by the FAQ are those who have featured in this NG in the years gone by, and any animosity has, indeed, been originated by the criticised groups. For me, Radio Hammery has always had traditions of international gentlemanliness and these criticised groups do not have those traditions. So, you would appear to come from the traditional seed-corn of Radio Hammery, where it is a technical pursuit with jealously guarded privileges and yet you seem to take offence at criticsm of those who are not in your league. I offer no apologies for maintaining a stance to uphold the technical and gentlemanly traditions of Ham Radio; nor do I apologise for setting ourselves apart from CBers. wrote: "One group of people who claim to be of the standard of Radio Hams but who are in reality nothing more than an apology for the failure of a CBer are those class B licensees who falsely proclaimed that they were against the use of a Morse Test to control access to the HF bands, until, that is, a test was introduced at their intellectual level, the intellectual level of 6-year-olds. " Hold on a mo. I'm a class B licence holder - G8LIR, and have been for, oh about 30 years I think. My main interest was in fast scan ATV on 70 Cms and 23cms, and with a small team we competed in many ATV contests, setting new (and I think unbroken) records. All our equipment was home built - yes I do mean ALL - including narrow band ATV receivers utilising inline cavities and integrating receivers to subtract noise and reveal lost images when only a weak sync pulse was available. We also DESIGNED and built the linear amplifiers using 4cx250's in push pull, with 2kv on the anodes and tuneable cavities (not copied designs). And, oh yes, we designed filters using laplace transforms to calculate the correct vaues for the inductors, wound them ourselves and tuned then with second hand spectrum analysers. Now to me, that level of technical expertise speaks to a certain intellectual level over a 6 year olds. I was considering returning to the hobby, but frankly the view in this FAQ has put me off. |

You continue to behave like a 5-year-old.
