My old Radio Shack Pro-51 is getting a bit tired and I'm thinking it's about time to drag it to the back of the barn and
give it one in the neck.

Any suggestions as to replacement? I've been thinking of Yaesu VR-500, but, as it has been around for a lot of years, I
suspect there are several possibilities in the same approximate price range ($250-500) that are more advanced than that.

I *really* haven't followed the markets over the past years, so I'm kinda in the dark (lots of brands, yupiteru,
bearcat, uniden etc. etc. )...

My basic requirements:
- Aviation traffic monitoring (99.9% of the time)
- I would be nice to monitor/control the scanner via Linux over [serial] connection
- Must be portable.

I'm all ears...

especially good on aircraft band. If you want to stay the same let me
know.

Albertto,

I've been *very* happy with Pro-51. I don't have anything negative to say about it and I'd still want to continue with
it if I could.

The thing is that battery power doesn't work anymore ('DC9V In' still works), 'light' -key doesn't work anymore, 'K/L'
-key doesn't work anymore, #6 & #8 -keys works intermittently and the case is "slightly" cracked.

I don't want to make any hasty conclusions, but I suspect that dropping it three floors down the stairwell didn't do it
much good, neither do I think it is a good idea to try to sell it thru eBay

(Actually I was *totally* surprised and impressed to see it even a tiny bit alive after the fall!)

The thing is, I'm interested in something "new" I can live with for the next - say - 10-15 years.

Cheers and all that, take care!
