I know what you mean, but I can't magically make the radio do
something it's obviously not designed to do.

My advice? Buy Ni-Mh rechargable batteries and charger from Radio
Shack [ I have # 23-1302 which has 4 AA's and it cost me $21 ] .
The charger is free when you buy the batteries and will recharge the
Ni-Mh's in 2 hours. I get almost 10 hrs of continuous use on a charge
in my Pro 96 scanner radio.

And yes I know your Midland has a supplied "charge jack" for
rechargable batteries but I'd recommend the RS batteries and charger
and would recommend you use the charger from RS. If it's necessary
to have the radio operational for the 2 hr recharging time get
yourself a couple of disposable AA batteries or keep 2 of the Ni-Mh's
charged at all times.

Heh, he seems a bit ungrateful this morning. LOL. Oh well. We
both tried and I've given him the Radio Shack part number for some AA
Ni-Mh batteries and charger that I use in my Pro 97 scanner. He can

Ah, you are an expert compared to my experiences! I share your
curiosity on how things work but have never done any practical
experimentation. My one claim to fame was I tutored a friend for her
Tech class license and she Aced the test! I'm not an Amateur Radio
operator myself but I got through university so she figured I could
help her cram for the test. This friend later volunteered to go to
NYC after 9/11 and she helped provide communications for the
firefighters and rescue workers at ground zero. She was assigned to
a firehouse and ran her " shack" from there.

Well now - there is something you can be proud of. Indirectly - you were
helping those in need. There is no code - anymore - so that is one less
hurdle - should you desire "to" go for your license. If you helped her cram
for one - I'm sure you must remember some things from the question pool. Ask
your friend as a return favor - to help you - then you two can converse via
many more modes than just phone, cell phone or computer. You two can grow
together in the hobby.

Honey, "I" am "far" from an expert. Anyone who thinks they are - is dead in
the water - there is "always" something to learn. You have to go into this
stuff with an open mind as much is based on theories and at that - some of
those were done in "labs" - and can be tested outside the lab.

If you decide to get into the Hobby, I wish you the best of luck - maybe one
day we can talk on the H.F. Bands.

Whatever "I" can answer - I will. I'm sure if you read many posts - you see
varying opinions as to results and so on - so - that is why I say - keep an
open mind.

I'd actually thought about getting my license but then life and it's
responsibilities interceded. It might be time for me to think about
it again.
