Could have received an answer here but that seems impossible now.

I guess these [4] newsgroups are nothing more than 'let's talk about
how far I got out [miles] last night' bragging etc.

Sorry, I had a rather busy week....... I'm not familiar with this unit
to
offer much more than -

1. IF it is soley battery powered - remove the batteries until you
either
repair the unit yourself or get it repaired, or use an optional adaptor
to
supply power. But duh - you probably already knew that.

2. As to the problem - sounds like you've got a defective on/off
switch -
OR - possibly a strand of wire or solder blob - across the switch -
effectively shorting it out - and not useable for control.

midland are tards... Manual says to 'save batteries' place unit in non
receive mode, their is NOT AN OFF SWITCH according to manual.

I will NEVER buy anything again from midland.

Even if midland had an offer of 2 high-end computers for $99 I'd not
buy one.




HUH? No on/off switch? THAT IS WEIRD! Well, if there is any room on the
chassis/cabinet, you could always wire one in - sure a lot more
convenient
than burning up batteries. "Shouldn't" take much to put a switch in the
unit.

Not able to see a top, rear, or right side view of the unit OR inside, it
"appears" you "might" be able to put a micro toggle switch on it - if you
don't mind drilling a small hole in the case. BUT - the problem is, is the
case is supposed to be "Water proof". So - to drill any holes, you're
asking
for trouble. Apparently - they've designed it to remain on to "protect
you".
Most of the Weather radios I've seen, had an on/off control on them. I
guess
the "Snooze" mode - maybe would work OR on a channel not covered by
N.O.A.A. - in your area. What would then be a "Squelched" condition would
have less drain on the cells - but still drain - none the less.

What sort of batteries are you using? It "says" it has "in unit
charging"............ So - you should be able to reduce battery purchase -
according to that. Does it have a drop in charger? It says nothing of any
"jack" to charge with only and earphone jack.


I'm using those reg expensive store bought batteries, not rchargeble.

The weatheradiio is suppose to be in standby mode, but shows the time,
date, etc...

You can put it in alert mode, it claims the 'reciever' is then
working..

It's a stupid radio.


Well, being it "supposedly" recharges cells in the radio - get yourself a
set of rechargeables and see if it helps........ If nothing else, take it
back to where you bought it for an exchange or refund.

1. The "charger" was not included.
2. The re-stocking free + shipping cost would make returning it very
expensive.
3. I'm too stupid to have simply waited for the Oregon Scientific
radios.
