Where do you live? What kind of system are you trying to listen to? If you
do not know, or are not sure, the Radio Reference page is often a great
place to start.

live in montgomery county, pa...they have some info on their website,
but nothing specific. they tell you what freqs the trunking system
uses, but not what type of system it is.

It says this is Motorola Type II SmartZone. Most of this you can listen to.
Anything with an A means analog, that scanner can pick it up.

Countywide Police Talkgroups
East System Police Talkgroups
West System Police Talkgroups

That is just the Trunked Police, They list a lot of conventional too, which
that scanner also can pick up.
There is also Fire, and a whole lot of other stuff listed there in your
area. Should keep you busy a long time.

If you did not get a manual with it, they can still be downloaded in PDF
for free.

cool! Thanks much!! I paid $40 for the scanner, but I don't know if
this area has been 'retrunked'...so if this works, it'll be a damn
cheap scanner. the scanner says it can copy type II systems...but
from what I've read, most radio systems have been 'retrunked'..so
we'll see

I think what you are trying to say is re banded. For several years now the
FCC has been talking about this. Some one dropped the ball with Nextel,
letting them use frequencies too close to the ones they were licensing to
Cities and such. Not all area's had this problem. We have the same system
here and it has never changed. If they do reband then that scanner will not
work on the 800 there.
A couple easy ways to tell. If you have the manual try to program in some
of these frequencies.

866.03750 866.32500 866.55000 866.77500a 867.13750a 867.65000a
868.45000c

If the scanner will take them, you are in. You can also set it to service
search in the Police 800 band and see what it's picking up. It's an old
scanner but if the towns have not rebanded it should work fine.
Have fun!

I think drug tests are great. Since I have to pass them to earn money to
pay taxes, Everyone on, or applying for welfare should have to pass them to
get some of my money.
