Would you care to enlighten us amateur shoppers?
"Scan10" wrote in message ... Well, yes the ad is full of BS, but there are two true things - 1. You can't find it in any RS store - the reason being that RS is only selling it via special order - so far. 2. Technically, because you have to order it (and they charge shipping - up to $45) - the total comes to over $500. (Even for those in tax-free states). (and there is a way to avoid the shipping charge on ordered items - professional RS shoppers know how....) The sad part is some idiot will believe it. My favorite line is if the bidding reaches $700, he'll pay the shipping. shaking head http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3049364468 this happended last year too, right before the 785 was actually shipped several vendors were insisting they had them several weeks ahead of everyone else the complaints to eBay shut most of 'em down... until they got a new UID =US= Actually there really isn't anything wrong with this ad (so far). At $415.00 (as I write this) it isn't a bad deal and the shipping cost is reasonable. If his starting price was higher than the $499 RS sells it for then there would be an issue. The selling price is right now below the purchase price available to mere mortals. I don't know if there was a reserve price or not but the start price was apparently $1.00. The seller took a gamble and it remains to be seen whether he makes money or not. As always with eBay, one needs to know what they are bidding on. If someone wants to bid $700 for a $500 scanner that is readily available via mail order now then they deserve to pay it. It could be some people will pay a premium price to get the radio now rather than wait the 2 weeks or so before the radio is availble in stores. After all how many of us paid $560 or so to get the radio now via mail? I could have saved the taxes and shipping by waiting til they were out in the stores and have my brother-in-law slip over to Delaware and pick one up where there is no sales tax. It was worth the extra $60 to me to get it now rather than next month. I have a problem when the ad is total bull****. There was no "Radio Shack recall", and there is nothing special about his"hot off the line" Pro-96...And the list price is not over $500 as stated. |
