Actually.... unless you get into building a really complicated multiband
antenna for that far of a spread, my guess is to build one somewhere about halfway, like around the 400-500Mhz range. To build a single band antenna, it will work well on the frequency it is designed for and probably work fairly decent on the bands that are multiples of that frequency. Other frequencies would probably work but with some diminished performance. Check out the Arrl Antenna Handbook for a good source of a variety of antennas. Or try considering purchasing one from Radio Shack or many other retailers like www.aesham.com or do a search for ham radio outlet which is another retailer.
