Default Realist Pro-46 .. Trash or Treasure?

I moved about 3 years ago and in my move I somehow misplace my Realistic Pro
46 Scanner. I was SO SURE that someone helping me move took it .. and I
hated thinking that. But this weekend we [Volusia County Florida] got
pounded my Hurricane Francis and yesterday - being it was too hot with no
airconditioning to stay inside - I took on the project of cleaning out the
garage. Figured the trash guys will be here today and they will be
expecting LOTS and LOTS of trash. There in the garage in a drawer in a desk
that I was trashing, I found my scanner.

Meanwhile, the area I moved to requires a scanner with trunking, so I bought
one .. the Realistic Pro 46 didn't have trunking .. but ALL freq were wide
open. So I brought the scanner inside .. turned it on .. nothing .. Of
course nothing .. the batteries probably died a few years ago .. so I got
some double a's .. put them in .. NOTHING .. plugged it in the wall ..
NOTHING .. Whether I am using the hole for charging or just a/c .. NOTHING
...

Question is .. Do I put it out in the front yard with the desk I found it in
??? Or is there some hope of salvaging this scanner. Thanks ..

Try doing a hard reset first, worth a try. If you don't know how, you can
locate the manual on the Radio Shack website.

How do you do a reset when it doesn't even turn on ? Doesn't it need to
start up to do a reset ? Diane

Depends on how it does the reset. Many radios have a key combination that
you push while turning on the power, which forces the CPU to reinitialize
itself, and has been known to bring "dead" radios back to life. Of course,
in this case it appears that you didn't have any power getting to the radio,
so a reset wouldn't have had any effect. Should have mentioned that as your
obvious first check, but it slipped my mind (bad clutch!). Glad you got it
working.

On the older uniden models the reset mode was to hold down 2 - 9 and
enter.Turn the radio on and then off.Turn it back on and your channels would
be clear.
