I checked out the BC246T based on your suggestion. It looks like a nice
little unit, however I don't really need another receiver. I can see the
advantage of having a unit that will tune to the found frequencies right
away, though, especially when you consider the price difference between the
246 and the Scout. What I'm wondering about is the difference in
performance between the units strictly as frequency counters/recorders.

I am considering the purchase of an Opto Scout. I do not have a receiver
that is Reaction Tune capable. These models appear to be the best thing
going in terms of portable frequency counters/recorders. I thought it
would be interesting to use it to find active frequencies in different
areas, public events, etc. I am looking for opinions--good or
bad--regarding whether these units are worth the money and perform well,
or even alternative units to consider. I noticed the PRO-83 has a similar
feature, but without the ability to record the frequencies.

Have you checked out the new BC246T? I believe it will auto store freqs it
finds.
