millions of Linux users that believe they're imune from attack on the

Fair enough. I should keep my comments to myself. But since we are on the
subject, I have used Linux for nine years and never ONCE been affected by a
virus or suffered an attack from an uninvited user. I do not have adware
on my computer, nor do I have to reboot every time I install a piece of
software. I literally can do anything on my Linux laptop that I could do
running Windows - I know, I tried going back to Windows a couple of times
recently on my laptop just to maintain compatibility with work. A week
later I went back to Linux. It costs less because I don't have to pay for
nagware that is useful and it runs faster and cleaner by far.

Linux is inherently safer than Windows. Much safer. Not totally immune but
effectively so in my opinion and experience.

Cheers.

Unverifiable, unprovable comments sure....

But since we are

Twelve plus years for me with Windows (various versions) for with the same
result. Your point is?

I do not have adware on my computer,

Neither do I. Your point is?

nor do I have to reboot every time
I install a piece of software.

Neither do I. Not that rebooting is problem for me when installing software.
Why is rebooting a problem for you running Linux?

I literally can do anything on my

I can literally do ANYTHING on my Windows systems using 5 FREE versions of
Linux on bootable CD's that I do in Windows. Your point is?

IOW the work you need to do cant be done in Linux because Linux is
incompatiable with the work you need to do.....

Yet again another unverifiable, unprovable comment....

Except that I dare you to find more than one linux user for every 100
windows users who have had a virus or other malware infect their computer.

You should not have to reboot the computer to install software. That is
just silly.

No, TI uses Windows almost exclusively and I merely wanted to try and keep
it simple with respect to MS Office related stuff as well as Exchange use.
I tried Windows and although I was like everyone else, I was unhappy. I
still do all the work I need or want to do on my linux laptop.

A week later I went back to Linux.

Not at all. Windows runs slower as adware builds up. This is not fiction.
Windows in my experience must be rebooted regularly about every few days.
I routinely go 90-120 days in Linux without rebooting. And then only to
give my machine some off time.

Linux is inherently safer than Windows. Much safer.

What I see here is a list of distributions made for Windows users. They
have little if anything to do with the kernel. Get a good distribution and
it does not appear on this list.

And I said it was my "opinion". I don't have to prove it or verify it. But
if you need proof, just talk to some linux system admins and those in
companies which use Linux.

I tried linux but my limited experience with it was that it was less robust
than windows --- in terms of withstanding power outages and improper
shutdowns, anyway. Every time the power went unexpectedly the windoze boxes
rebooted ok but the linux ones needed re-installing, consistently.

If you want to play with linux but don want all the hassles of having to
have it installed on your hard drive, get hold of one of the free bootable
Linux CD Roms that come with numerous computer magazines.

That way you can play with it without having to alter your system, and when
you're finished playing you just reboot back into Windows.

I have five different versions of Linux that I can do this with, but after
'evaluating' them for most of last year, not one of them has 'done enough'
to make me drop Windows as My OS of choice.

They're neither better, than, more secure than, or easier to use than
Windows.... They're just another OS that Can be an alternative to Windows
for those that want an alternative.

The only thing worse than the millions of Windows user that are unaware of

That's absurd. At most and depending on the distribution it would perhaps
fsck the system and repair any issues.

Perhaps I should just not argue this point anymore. I didn't mean for this
to get too heated.
