Besides the lower take-off angle, in theory you would also get some gain
over the 1/4-wave groundplane if the 5/8 had a proper ground plane itself--that is assuming it has been properly matched. The 5/8-wave has some intrinsic reactance that needs to be tuned out with a simple network for a proper match to the transceiver. For receive only, I'm not sure how critical the match is. wrote in message oups.com... Is ther much difference in the performance of a 1/4 wave ground plane vs a 5/8? For any freqnecy but especially vhf? |
