-------------------------------------------------- Many states disagree. They say state law supercedes Federal law. And they give the reason as the U.S. constitution says that any rights not specifically granted to the Federal government by the constitution belongs to the states. Cases in point. The highway funding of the early 70's over the 55 MPH speed limit. The Federal Government wasn't able to legally make a law requiring all states to obey the 55 mph limit because the rights belong to the state. The states even said so. To get around this, the Federal government simply threatened to withold federal funding for the roads from any state who didn't reduce the speed limit to 55 MPH. |
