IC-R75, VR-5000, ? $700 max
I'm in the market for a tabletop receiver of fairly high quality, but it
seems to me that all of the best functionality is in new handhelds. I've looked in some detail at both the Icom IC-R75 and the Yaesu VR-5000, and the substantial idiosyncrasies of each have me leaning heavily toward an IC-R20, which seems to have everything I want except the "correct" form factor. Anything else I ought to look at before I just go get an IC-R20 tomorrow and be done with it? Budget is no more than $700 on the bottom line, which eliminates the AOR 8600 MkII. Thanks for any advice, -- Bo Williams - http://hiwaay.net/~williams/ |

To stay within your budget, I would recommend the Icom IC-R75. Then add the
numerous, and effective enhancements that are available for it. Bill Crocker "Bo Williams" wrote in message ... If not concerned about "form," why not consider the Icom PCR-1000? Do a
google search for Bonito software (version 5.2) and check out what you not only can hear but see. There is a lot of other software options on the net and more web sites than you can read in a long weekend in reference to the PCR-1000. BTW, the software from Bonito isn't cheap. pcox Bo Williams wrote: I'm in the market for a tabletop receiver of fairly high quality, but it seems to me that all of the best functionality is in new handhelds.
