Default Radio Shack (GRE) PRO-95 on Close-Out Sale

Radio Shack is discontinuing the PRO-95 (GRE Mfg), Cat. #20-525 Hand-Held
Scanner @ $129.99!

Pro 95 1000-Channel Dual-Trunking

High-performance, extended coverage scanner has the ability to scan both
trunked and conventional channels at the same time. It has 1000
memories-arranged in 10 banks of 100-and 1000 ID memories that can display
your text entries for easier identification of frequencies. The triple

non-trunked police/ fire, marine, CB, Ham and VHF-air frequencies for
activity. Extended coverage includes CB (AM), 220MHz and 1260MHz Ham bands.
Weather alert sounds an alarm and the display indicates level of alert. PC

cloning with another PRO-95 scanner (cable Cat. No. 42-2420 1/8" mono to
1/8" mono plug, extra).

Didn't they just 'update' that thing recently? I saw a new version of it in
Radio Shack a few days ago. All the changes are cosmetic however. Some of
the buttons on the keyboard have been moved around and colorized and the
case is light gray as opposed to black. It's still got the same ol' crummy
GRE innards though.

If by "update" you mean "replace with a new scanner", then yes. The
new version is the PRO-97.

changes are cosmetic however. Some of the buttons on the keyboard
have been moved around and colorized and the case is light gray
as opposed to black.

If, in fact, you're referring to the PRO-97, the changes are far
from cosmetic:

* LTR trunking added
* CTCSS/DCS added
* 150 talk groups/bank vs. 100
* "Signal Stalker" added
* Added NWS FIPS/SAME mode
* Step sizes for various frequency ranges changed (e.g. 8.333 kHz
between 108 and 137 MHz).
* Added 225-406 MHz
* Increased sensitivity in 216-225 MHz

Yea, I've got 2 43's, 2 34's, and 2 60's, not to mention several others BUT
having alpha tags would be great. I have others with alpha/computer
capabilties so I guess I don't need a 95...

Geez, that's not much of a close-out price, though. I bought mine on sale
for $149 a couple of years ago. At half that price, they'd be a reasonable
close-out deal.

Keeping things in perspective, the price of the PRO-95 has gradually been
lowered over it's lifetime. As I recall, when it was first introduced, it
was around $300.00. It's a lot of scanner for $129.99.
