You read correctly... I assume you have been hiding away somewhere for the
last year? Uniden has Close Call, and Radio Shack has Signal Stalker. Both are the same, and developed by Uniden. Note, that's NOT Signal Stalker II... It will instantly bring up the strongest local frequency. Distance from scanner depends on the signal strength (i.e. relative power output) of the transmitter... As an idea, Fast Food drive through, a few feet from the box at most. My local PD (50-watt transmitter on 155.310MHz up on a LARGE hill), I can get out to as far as 2 to 3 miles with a clear view of the antenna, though terrain and the like (yada, yada) will effect the distance... I'd say average would be about a few blocks for a moderately powered transmitter. I believe the specs say up to 1000 feet... Just seen an ad on ebay for Uniden UBC72XLT saying it has "close call RF capture technology". Which reckons it will pull in close signals of nearby traffic instantly ! - Now sorry for appearing a little cautious here but that cannot be true, surely ?. How far can it do this up to and what power must the transmitter be transmitting on ?. Surely it cannot pick up the, say, average taxi over the street transmitting to his base can it ? (just an example for arguments sake !) ? Cheers Andy |
