Default My Degen/Kaito 1102 SSB Mod

Many of us who own this radio have noticed that tuning to SSB is very
difficult because you have to move the wheel in little 1/64MM
increments to
fine tune it. Been sick of this, I did a mod to reduce the range of the

wheel to about 1/3 what it is from the factory. This makes it much,
much
easier to tune into SSB broadcasts. You'll get much better sound
quality
with less fussing.

Now, on to the good stuff.

1. Take radio apart.

2. Remove the 3 or 4 screws holding the analog circuit board to the
case.

3. Identify the 3 pins of the POT. Middle one (2) is the feed, and 1
and 3
are the far ends. This is a 100K pot. The mod is to tie 2 50K resisters

between pins 1 and 2, and pins 2 and 3. This is very tricky as there
are
many SMD components in there and many oppurtunities to ruin your radio
if
you arent good at soldering. This is how I got mine in:

I didnt have enough room to try and solder both resisters directly, so
one
was extended with wires for a bit more room.
Sorry for my camera's suckage but you get the idea.

4. It would not be so hot if those resisters started shorting to nearby

circuits, so I applied liquid and vinyl electrical tape to make sure it

doesnt happen.

5. Reassemble.

6. Pray.

7. Turn on. If you did it right you can start enjoying your new mod
right
away.
