You have probably never even seen one on the outside. This is why you do not know that there was a 1 kw-only version of the kit, intended for stations that were not Class IVs that had to cut power. The whole idea of the 707 was to provide a very cheap transmitter for small stations... thus the kit. I think the cutback kit consisted of a double throw power contactor for the B+ transformer primary, a time delay relay, and a switch. Yep. There were also several power supply options when you bought the kit. There are still a couple of people around LA who actually built 707's from the kit and remember them well. I understand one is in use as a ham transmitter in the Antelope Valley, too. |
