As you have correctly pointed-out while they both may have
the same 50 Feet Length-of-Wire used to make them.
* The BroomStick is only 5-8 Feet Tall {Long}
- = Verses= -
The 50 Foot Random Wire Antenna is in-fact 50-Foot L O N G !

Plus the fact that most BroomStick Antennas are located
in-side the House {Radio Shack room}
- = Vice = -
Most 50 Foot Random Wire Antennas are located out-side
the House :
1 - One with-in the Man-made-Noise Zone {BroomStick}
2 - One beyond the Man-made-Noise Zone {50-Foot Wire}
So "Location" - Also plays it's part in making the
Out-Side 50 Foot Random Wire Antenna the better Antenna
for Shortwave Listening SWL).

I made one of these antennas about a year ago, and while it worked, the
50 foot random wire I have up now works much better.

- They are both none resonant antennas and the 50 foot random wire
- has a larger capture area so that would be the expected result.
