Your argument just turned and bit you. My whole point is that AM is
becoming
a band only for old people, one that advertisers have no interest in. You
tried to prove something with figures that are meaningless, 12+ ratings.
And
the fact is, advertising is not sold on 12+, it is sold on 18-34 and 25-54
adult demos. AM is dying because the listeners are too old and advertisers
can not reach their most desirable consumers on AM.

AM will be around, until after we are gone.

At the present rate, all AMs in a few years will be religious or niche
ethnic focused, once news-talk moves to FM. Sure, there will be AM stations,
but with nearly no listening and serving very tiny constituencies.

There will always be some news/talk/sports on AM - WLW AM is ranked
#1. AM talk radio is very popular:

Let me guess - you are an IBOC shill.

And they are not top 5, for the most part, in 25-54 which is all that
counts.

WGN's revenue dropped so much in 2006 that it put the whole Tribune company
in jeopardy and triggered a call for buy-out offers.

Precisely the arguments used by AM broadcasters to deflect concerns
about FM in th 60's.

Nothing will bring about change in Radio faster than the argument
"Ain't happening."

Heck, doesn't the Tribune Company only own *one* radio station? That being WGN.
Most of their business is *publishing* which represented 74% of revenues in
2006.

It's not about them going dark. It is about them becoming irrelevant due to
the age of the listeners, the move of news talk to FM, and the change of
mmost AMs to niche programming that is religious or narrow ethnic in nature.
