Well Folks,
I see that WABC, WOR and WFAN 770, 710 and 660 are broadcasting IBOC at 7:30PM tonight. I like to BCB DX and I have found that nulling out the IBOC sidebands is easy to do since they are weaker than the main signal. Using my GE Superradio II I just turn the receiver to a null and perfect copy +- 10khz. I am very close to New York City and the NJ Meadowlands where the signals all originate and it is not too hard to get a null. As signals pickup later into the evening from the skippers I have good copy. Now for my formal DX setup using the Horizontal pennant antenna with the DC null adjuster pointed towards New York I can very easily create deep nulls on the IBOC sidebands both plus and minus. So for home listening and DXing IBOC really does not seem to be a problem at night for me. For the avid DX'er just build a pennant antenna or get a directional loop. Driving cross country at night still has to be tried and I suspect that may be a little trickier. I suggest giving it a try to see that the IBOC signals do in fact null without to much difficulty. -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ |
