Hopefully, this will be mostly an issue, if you have a local 50KW AM
and are trying to hear a distant, adjacent AM - either way, AM-HD will
be the death of AM.

The real issue is that the FCC neither has the technical expertise or
desire to combat market forces such as IBiquity. AM HD is a solution
to a problem that doesn't exist and is technically flawed because
there is no clean way to transition from pure analog AM transmission
to digital transmission. IBiquity and AM broadcasters know this but
they seem intent on ignoring the technical issues.

You just can't throw away billions of analog receivers and get
everyone to buy a more expensive digital one. The market just isn't
there as most AM listeners just don't care.

This sure doesn't sound like the R.F.Burns on radio-info.com -
actually, consumers could give a **** about HD Radio, as a whole:

DX'ers - WAS2 ~ RHF

IBOC is earnings-driven. As Mr. Eduardo is so quick to point out,
DXers don't pay the bills. So the industry as a whole is willing to
risk something like IBOC to revive earnings. It's a kludge; there
might be better options; but it's not going away soon. And that sucks
for distance listening on older equipment.

New equipment might actually open up new kinds of DX. We just don't
know yet.

IBOC = QRM, and Edweenie is a fake Hispanic!

If the IBOC folks are correct, then lots of people would probably like
to listen to power line noise if only they can hear it in digital
quality. lol

I can hear IBOC crap on the analog signal. It's very low level, but
you can clearly tell when a local station is using the hash generator.
Also, the bandwidth goes to ****. The analog signal when IBOC is
running is just barely better than a phone line.

If your receiver IF/Mixer isn't completely flat you'll hear the IBOC.
The digital sidebands are out of phase with each other and the system
relies on them cancelling out in your receiver. You can't use a synch
detector on an IBOC station, unless you can listen to both sides at
once.

Mostly, the only stores I get to anymore are the food store, the discount
tobacco store, gas station, the Animal Health Products store (dog food)
and sometimes the Sears store and the book store at the mall.

I almost never check out the radios at the stores I go to which do sell
radios because I know they are mostly junk and I haven't looked to see
if there are any hd radios on the store shelves.I don't like hd radio.

So, what is it going to be like for most people when their AM radio
listening gets all messed up and they can't buy cheap enough hd radios
at the stores in their local areas? (Katrina all over again)

A few weeks ago at tvpredictions.com I read that there might not be
enough hd converters for analog tv when that big hd tv switch over is
suppose to happen on Feburary 17, 2009. (Katrina all over again)
